Different tyre size on standard 18" wheels.

Featured Replies

Has anyone run a lower profile tyre? or one thats a little bit thinner? maybe a bit of stretch look?

spotted a Renault Twingo at the weekend that had hardly any tyre wall and it was standard.

Only ask as if I was to go a bit lower on the coilovers it may help me be prevent scrubbing in the future.

Er, if you want to retain the standard rolling radius and wheels, then fitting narrower tyres (as implied by your mention of stretch) also requires using higher aspect ratio tyres. For example, instead of a 205/50, fitting a 155/75 ratio.

Yeah, I may be doing something for the front set..... dunno yet.

Whatever you fit, you need to fit the same size on all four corners otherwise the ABS system will get all confused with the different rotational speeds of the front/rear and will throw a fault code for faulty sensors.

I'm pretty sure there's a certain tolerance as you could have the same size tyre with 7mm on the rear and 3mm on the front but you don't get any issues in this case. Not that I'm a fan of overly stretched tyres myself (in the past I bought a set of wheels with 215/35 tyres on a 9inch wide wheel and wasn't a fan) but you should be able to get away with say a 215/40 instead of 225/40 on one axle for example.

Depends on the combination of ride height, wheel width, wheel offset and tyre width and profile really. They all play their part.

What wheels are you running currently?

My Goodyear efficigrip (spelling) are narrow with more stretch look than my Kumhos or Dunlop's I had.
