Mk4 golf recaros what have I just done!t

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so this morning I've been to pick up a set of 3 door mk4 golf recaros,

I won them on eBay for £35 and they we're only 7 miles away, I should of went to look at them first really but oh well.

I got both fronts and rears.

They are really grubby but I've got a friend who is coming to sort them out, then there off to the trimmers to sort the bolsters out and patch a hole up.

My main worry Is there seems to be panels on the back of the seats which have been removed. And the clips seem to be missing any body know anything about these?

This is what I'm up against haha!

I've purchased these because my vrs wagon is my daily and i use it for work. Painter and decorator. And I don't want to ruin my half leathers up as there in top condition.

Any pics or advice would be great thanks!

I think I would have got some heavy duty seat covers instead, but hopefully they come up looking nice.  :)

Bargain. Apart from being a little grubby look in ok condition. So much more supportive than original octy seats. I'm not sure about your panels on the back. Post pic and I will check against mine.

Ok thanks group1rs, I have got heavy duty seat cover on my octy seats I'm more concerned of the bolster wear tbh, at £35 quid I thought it was worth a go! Even if I just swap over the drivers seat.

I'll post some pics in the week when they've been cleaned.

i had the same issue when i collected my Recaros to go in my Fabia

the panels on the back hook in at the top and have a trim clip fastener at the bottom.

My passenger seat back came unattached and was missing the clips at the top so it did this

upon taking it off i found it was missing the hooks from the tops of the panels

passengers in the top of the pic under the drivers

i sourced some new covers complete with hooks, purchased some new lower pop fastenings from VW as they do break super easy

Yea I need them green pop studs? Do they have a part number, the old owner had used a glue gun to fix them on! What a tool!

At  35 notes you really can't grumble. I expect they will come up ok with a good clean

I stripped the material off my old Cordoba seats when i moved back from Scotland - after sitting for 9 months they were horrific...

Soaked them in a bucket of APC (Flash) for 1/2 an hr, then into the washing machine at 40 with a load of powder...

Dried them for about 2 days, then put them back on.

Having left the seats in the car, it was rather fun getting everything back on - lots of pulling, stretching, swearing....

if you give it a go, with the rear seat squabs, you'll see what im talking about, with the wire tensioners in the foam.

Yea the rear seats are fine tbh I good wet vac will see them right, it's the front two in concerned about. I'll try and do some more research on it,

My thinking was if the trimmers take the material off when re doing the bolsters so that might a good time to do it then.

I'd imagine so but I just went to my local dealer parts department and went "mk4 golf gti. Recaro seats. Clips on the back" and the guys went through the catalogue until he found them. They are special heavy duty ones that had to be ordered in.

I did the fronts as well, but the Rear squabs were the easiest... thus a good indicator of the task ...

it is possible, just a pain in the arse...

Either strip and machine wash....

or, try a rug doctor... lot of the guys use em with the small attachment thingy for seats,

and they scrub up lovely. havnt tried one myself though.

I found the centre section of my Recaros super difficult to clean.

The material itself is harder/firmer/tougher than normal material and seems to hang on to dirt really rather well.

I used a foaming cleaner which seemed to lift the dirt well rather than something like AG interior shampoo spray which was just plain pants.

Ok I think I'm gona grab some foam cleaner and combine it with a rug doctor and give it one more go, if they don't clean up to standard I'm not going to bother with the bolster repairs! Fingers crossed!
