Adding AUX input to steam radio (not mp3), without CDC

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I have found many posts on this forum but none answer my question. I am tying to add a AUX port to my radio in my 2005 Skoda Octavia. I have taken out the radio but there is no AUX pins on the back. I understand you can bypass the CDC left and right (image below) pins on the radio, but I am unable to do this as I do not have a CDC installed in the car.

Is there any way I can do this myself (eg. not purchasing a plug-and-play device online), perhaps placing a resister across the CDC pin tricking it into thinking there is one present?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

James.

As you suggest, without a CDC in place you won't get the opportunity to tell the unit to activate any aux sound input. This is why you see products which emulate a CDC unit like a Connects2 interface. For example see item 251415586144 on eBay which should plug into the CDC socket on the back of the unit.

You may also need to code the unit to say a CDC is fitted.

I'm not convinced you can do as you say to emulate a CDC as there is probably more than just a voltage differential involved (the data pins for example).

If it were me, I'd look around for a Stream MP3 from eBay and add the aux wiring. Pretty much a 100% working solution. ;)

I fitted one of these a few weeks ago.

And drilled a hole into the top box like this:

Works ok-ish but cuts out when cd thinks it needs to change track so I'm going to put another stereo in but I mean it does work and is a cheap fix if you can get past that.

I started down the route of modifying the loom to the radio but abandoned it in favour of using an FM transmitter. Something like this if it's an iPhone:

or this if you just need a standard audio plug version:

I am happy with the results, simple to use and reasonable sound quality.

Thanks, the reason I do not want to purchase a device to fo this is because I'm currently a student with limited funds.

I may try the fm transmitter option, I'm sure I have the parts to build one laying around
