Vauxhall Omega 2.2 turbo diesel estate; I've owned my 2003 model since 2006 and it's now done nearly 115,000 and seems still to be going strong. Previously I had a 1994 2.0 litre petrol saloon owned from 1997 to 2006 and 130,000 miles. This had been the most reliable car I had ever owned (including new ones), hence the replacement with the estate. Unfortunately this has not been as reliable, requiring replacement of a cooling system valve, crankshaft sensor and both front door lock servo actuators, and a repair to the air con (the previous saloon had no air con.). Nonetheless, it remains otherwise acceptably reliable and with no visible rust even on underbody.

Hi

Hope you are well.

No they would be ok...funny I looked at astra diesels the other day - never been sure wether vauxhall have cracked Diesel engines as well as others? Although I think I'm right in thinking the 1.7 was an isuzu lump?

1.3 and 1.9 are fiat jtd crap.

1.7 is either Isuzu or gm

There's nothing wrong with the 1.9 JTD engines.

Just the electrics they're plugged into!

We had a 1.9JTD and it just went on and on.

Rest of the vehicle (like the whole dash, dash electrics and heating system) fell apart around it while the engine was going stong after 180k miles.

That was on a commercial though.

Thanks for all your input guys!! Some great suggestions and things to consider.

Funny....out of the blue today I was offered a van:

2006 Citroen Belingo 1.9d van (non turbo)

147,000 miles BUT it's being sold by an older chap who is some kind of Automotive engineer...owned by him since brand new - apparently he brought it off a dealer who was at a country show stand! Been serviced every 5 to 6000 miles. It's amazingly clean bodywork wise only one dink in the bonnet and one in the rear quarter panel. He hasn't used it for a couple of weeks as he's got a new van but it fired straight up and didn't smoke. Apparently doesn't use any oil or fluids. Wants a couple of new tyres on the back but he's going to mot it at sale so.......

Wants £1900 for it?

What do you reckon??

Father in Law has used small Citroen vans for years. Not without problems but generally nothing serious and normally to do with electrics rather than the engine.

Pretty miserable thing to spend a lot of time in though.

You could probably run that on veg oil too.

That engine will just basically never die! Still moves at a decent pace if given some stick.

Price sounds good.

Cheers Phil.

I am so so tempted, this chap is so meticulous, was able to tell me everything he's done to it etc. he's been to Germany in it several times for his work and says its been great but needed something bigger now.

Yeah we previously had a Pug 306 with the same engine in.

It's surprisingly good on a long run. A little noisier at speed but felt very happy at 80mph and would even doo 100mph if you pushed on the accelerator for long enough ;) Went to Germany a few times and would still get a calculated MPG of over 40 with 4 adults and luggage.
