So, back on topic:

After my test drive and the uncomfortable boom I experienced, which was bad enough to stop me buying the car, a search on this forum reveals it's a very common fault.

It's quite surprising that Škoda, with the engineering resources of VAG group behind it, could be unaware of a fault like this or let a car go to market without fixing it.

And very disappointing. I'm looking at second-hand Audis now and Škoda has lost a customer. Probably one of many given how defeated the salesman looked as soon as I asked him about the boom after our test drive.
