fabia 1.9tdi sometimes wont start

Featured Replies

Hello to all,

I'm new to this forum, found it on google just after my fabia wouldnt start from time to time.  It wont start sometimes cold or hot, the other day it even turns off while driving, I pushed the cluch the other day, and the car just turns off, woludent start fo 10 minutes, and then start normal....

I have searched on google, some people say it is the relay 109, some relay for engine managment.... Colud it be that? Or maybe has it something to do with the air intake?

I must say, when Im driving a little faster and rev up more than 2500rpm I can hear a electrical zzzzip-ing in the dashborad....(maybe it has someting to do with the problem..

can anyone help?

Does the engine crank?

If it does, is the tacho stuck at zero rpm?

Well, I have found the issue, it was the relay 109, it was slipping out from the vibration and loosing contact, so the car wouldent start,

I replaced the relay and now, for two days, no problems with starting the car. (relay 109 is for  engine managment and stuff like that)

The relay costs abaut 9 Euros in my town.

If anyone has the same problem, first check the damn relay.

Cheers :)

Ok, now I have almost the same issue, it pretty much wont start at all, even if it starts, it turns off after a few seconds. Had the car connected to diyagnostic, no errors were showen.

I cant start the car at all, only if im cranking the car for longer it start up and shuts donw after a short time, all the electronics work fine...

for info, the rpm are about 8-900 when cranking

What could it be?

If it switches off after 2 seconds try the spare key and have the fault codes read. 2 seconds is about as long as the immo takes to kick in and kill the engine. A few different ways exist to get round this depending on the exact cause, some cars have had to have full dash cluster swaps done though, others it's as simple as having another rf tag on your key ring etc.

Apart from the immobiliser...

Fuel filter? Or a leak in a fuel pipe, or a leak in an intercooler pipe or joint.

If it's engine related, get a cheap OBD2 dongle and Torque app or similar for your phone. Or as suggested, find an enthusiast neaby who has VAG-COM/VCDS.

fuel filter is new, the fuel pump sometimes doesnt turn on when I give contact, it has something to do with the fuel pump, or electrics being sent to the pump......so the pump is faulty or the electrics are faulty...

I have been to a few shops last days and so far no one could resolve this problem....I will go to a specialist tomorrow, hope he can help me...

I was google-ing and so far no one wrote how they resolve these problems even a lot of people have had the same problem.

Also, i have tried with another two spare keys, same problem.

I must say, when i am giving contact, and hear the fuel pump flushing, the car drives well, when I dont hear the pump, the car will drive for a short while and than turns off.

So far I am very frustrated about the car, I am thinking to sell it....

p.s. the car was connected to VAG-COM/VCDS for 4 times in different shops, no errors, no problems....

I would expect the cranking speed to be 240-280rpm. 8-900 is idle speed. I suspect you have a bad crankshaft sensor.

447 relay was faulty, replaced it, now the car is back and alive.

I got the car to a specialist, he found the problem with the relay, it was a relay from skoda, which are not reliable, he replaced it with the same relay just from a golf 4.

I hate skoda for that...

That makes sense as it's the starter relay
