New owner of skoda 120L

Featured Replies

Hi All,
My name is Tihomir and I am coming from Zagreb in Croatia. I am the owner of estelle for 2 months for now.

It has 33000 miles on the dash. When i got her the engine was in bad shape. It was smoking, consuming 8-9 liters per 100 kilemeters and drinking oil. I am a student and my car is daily driven so consumption is very big thing for me. I decided to put in a felicia 1.3 MPI engine with rapid 5 speed gearbox. I have replaced oil seals and bearings in gearbox. The front end is lowered and restored with all new parts. The front hubs are drilled to 4x100 with 57.1 centar hole, and at the back are adapter plates.  Here are some pictures of a car.

Brilliant work I must say, very impressive. I hope you have many happy miles together :-)

What size tyres are you planning on fitting? UK specs normally used 165R13 on a 5.5J wheel.

A 165 is more stretch than I'd like on a 7J. I'd suggest using 185/70R13, but I think you'd get problems with aquaplaning http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquaplaning given how light the Estelle front end is.

I am planning to stretch 175/60 13 tyre on. I shouldn't have problems with aquaplaning because i am planning to move gas tank up front where spare tyre is and battery on front to even the weight. And the biggest reason is that i am a Slow driver.

Check the standard size; one of the reasons that the UK went from 165R13 to 185/70R13 was that the rolling radius was the same, so the gearing remained correct. You've said that one of your concerns is fuel use, and a 175/60R13s will reduce the rolling radius, hence the overall gearing, so you'll need to rev the engine higher at a given road speed and that's likely to burn more fuel.

I'm not 100% sold on the red wheel webs, but it's your car (and if I did buy it, the red is a good undercoat for gold), and the wheel/tyre size combination fills out the arches nicely. I take it the suspension is dropped a bit?

Looks smart!

I am guessing that it has no suspension travel at all as the wheels don't fit inside the arches?
