Roomster cruise control retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2014 Roomster, 1.6 CR tdi 105 PS with SE trim. It was purchased without cruise control and I asked Skoda dealer to retrofit. They have done so, but not as I expected. They fitted an aftermarket AP900 unit, which adds an extra control wand lower down on the steering column that gets in the way. Should it have been possible for dealer to retrofit the equivalent of factory fitted (combined cruise control / indicator wand)?

Ok, thanks. So from the link you posted, does this apply as same as factory fitted? My Roomsteris RHD with trip computer. And should I press dealer to unfit aftermarket kit and fit this one? I paid them £380 to do it. I'm worried they will say it can't be done which is why they fitted aftermarket kit....

Suitable For: Fabia (5J), Roomster (5J) Only suitable for vehicles from CW 22/2012

Please note only suitable for RHD vehicles WITH on board computer.

Would they have cut a bit out of his steering column plastic to fit the extra stalk?

I've yet to come across a Roomster that can't have the OE kit installed and enabled.

In the future, it will still be possible, but you will have to purchase a 'feature license' in addition to the hardware.

I'm afraid they have, which is why I think they may be resistant to undoing it and putting in the OE kit.

The new kits I have had come with a new BCM which may or may not be required. The coding is done via SVM and a five digit code online with Skoda.

It leaves me wondering why the dealer installed the horrible after market kit rather than the OE one?  Is it technically more difficult? Is extra loom wiring / bulkhead cutting required?  It did take a tech from the dealer 5 hours to install the after market kit...

Very possible, I have done a few.

Skoda approved accesory kit, looks and works as factory and if fitted at PDi would have been covered by the full three years warranty.

I charge £350 to supply and fit the genuine kit, just for reference.

It's a shame you're in Worcs

Takes me about 3.5 hours to fit the geniune kit, I think the offical time is under 3.

Some dealers just don't like doing them. I've been doing them for the last 11 years or so and if I could make a living doing them i'd do it in a heart beat.

These aftermarket kits sit between the throttle pedal and the ECU. Apart from that connection they need power and CAN-bus (and/or speed/brake/clutch). You don't need a highline BCM so the existing one will do and no new software version/adaption is required. It should be a simple install.

Many dealers just don't like having to deal with SVM (Software Version Management) and may been caught out by the BCM/CECM level functionality in the past.

Tech1e may be able to do one in 3.5 but it takes me nearly 4 to do it properly. If you try to do it in book time, there's every chance of making a mistake or creating a rattle.

I carry out the install as per the instructions.

Out of the ones I have done thus far none have needed the BCM in the kit. All have coded fine through SVM.

Thought I would give an update. Took the car and above info into the dealer to discuss why they installed after market kit and not the OEM kit as I wanted. They took the 5J2054690A part number I had and put it into their Skoda database and then showed me the printout which said not compatible with Roomsters after 2012. So from their point of view the aftermarket kit was the only option. And because it is the only option on their system, I have no comeback to get a refund for the system they installed. So I'm stuck with it

Oh well. You live and learn.

Hmm despite the description of the part number says from CW 22/2012

Yeah I know that's the description on the parts database. I was told it used to be possible up to 2012 but after this requires cutting into the loom, etc (which I don't believe is true given the info above). So not impossible just not standard. I just feel let down I paid for one thing and got something unexpected. It was pointed out to me that the request was for "cruise Control" and that's what was supplied, so no recourse.

The one I did was a 2013 MY and the kit worked fine. No cutting into any looms at all.

complain if it was not made clear that it was not like the factory option

Interesting thread !  I purchased my SE in Feb this year, arrived hot of the press from the factory a few weeks later.  It was the SE at that silly price   Wanted cruise control fitted.  Spoke with the service department, who went online to the Skoda parts, to be told by head service man cannot be retro fitted on my car ? I was surprised about this as was happy to pay extra for same ?  So it seems I was being told ****** and it can be so fitted then ?   £350 is still a fair wedge for cruise control mind ?

My understanding is that, if the tech is using SVM, it will be fine. The date limit only applies if the tech is replacing the bcm with the one in the kit (I wouldn't expect VAG dealers to use this method).

The BCM still needs programming up anyhow. The first one I did created all sorts of issues fitting the BCM despite it being in the date range. Out of the half dozen or so of the new kits I have done now none of them have required the BCM, although a couple have had different units fitted to the one in the kit.

Will send you a pm. I am only an hour from you
