2013 Octavia Vrs Estate passenger door issue

Featured Replies

My father in law had trouble getting out of my car last week when the passenger door refused to open from the inside, despite pulling the lever several times, as well as myself pressing the remote opening button. I attempted to open the door from the outside, but no luck. My 85 year old in law had the climb over the centre console and gear lever to escape. I used the remote to lock and unlock the doors several times and eventually managed to open the door from the outside, but not from the inside. Really peed off at this point, less than 6 months old and having someone elderly trapped in the passenger seat!!!

I noticed that the door was catching on the top seal by the door jam/b. When the door was open i lifted the door up slightly, this solved the issue, the door could now be opened from both inside and out.

I booked the car in with the dealer/suppliers to have this investigated further. Yesterday I took the car in, after a four hour wait I was told that they had adjusted the door striker plate and tested it to confirm correct operation.

I was charger £39 for this half hour task.

Upon arriving home i checked the door alignment and it is a right dogs dinner, uneven gaps around the door joins, a high edge where both door meets the pillar. I am fuming, it looks worse now than it did before and compared to the drivers door, which shuts with a Skoda clunk, the passenger door closes with an awful thud!!!

Well unhappy!!!

Why did you pay? This is clearly a warranty issue........

Firstly, that sounds like it should have been a warranty issue, and you really shouldn't have been charged anything.  Secondly, if you're not happy with the work, take the car back and complain, and get them to put it right.

Back to dealer get it properly sorted under warranty and get that initial charge refunded

I had my dodgy handbrake investigated by my dealer and they couldn't find any fault but the investigation was still done for free under the warranty.

The stealer told me that Skoda would not accept the "repair" as a warranty issue, despite my opinions to the opposite. It will mean me having to do a 50 mile found trip plus tunnel chargesto the stealers again and i am so peed off I need to calm down a tad first!!!

Unbeilievable ! As above warranty issue and should not have been charged. Escalate this to Skoda uk customer services. Say dealer's work is shoddy and this should not have been charged for and if possible can you take it to another dealer to rectify . Best of luck

You talk yourself to customer services they are just covering their backs!

Yep you need to be speaking to SUK now.

Is there anything that could have led the dealership to believe that this is not a warranty issue? E.g. Damage to the door through interference by you or any kind of accident?

Worth checking the bottom of the door in case it got caught on the pavement somewhere which caused it to go out of alignment?

Staggering! No way would I have paid for that. Mine had the same issue. My wife rang to say she could not get out of the car, she had to climb over to the passenger side to get out. Rang the dealers and they said bring it in, no question about charging me. None.

Incidentally, I never took it in as it has not done it since, odd. I am sure they would not charge me if it happened again 6 months down the line. You've been had. Kick up a stink!

The reason for the charge was that the car has done 6,000 miles. There was no damage accidental or otherwise to the door, to be fair it is a mint car. I have been onto Skoda Cust Care and they have raised a case and I will be contacted within 48 hours. The passenger door is only used once a week, so it's not as if it's being used continually!!!

Standard warranty is for 3 years / 60,000 miles isn't it? Not sure why the issue arising after 6,000 miles would be an issue?

I totally agree, but and a BIG but is what exactly does  wording in the small print of the warranty say!!!

When I have a few spare days, i will check it out!! LoL!!

Well I know they exclude a few things, for example I think the clutch (manual only?) is only covered for the first 6 months or X amount of miles.

That's outrageous! And to think I was annoyed that they thought that having to slam my estate boot was Ok, they didn't charge me though. I adjusted my boot latch myself but will be having firm words when it goes back for a headlight issue.

Make sure they refund you and adjust it properly! It has to be a warrenty issue if a door won't open surely?

I had my handbrake checked at no charge with 10k miles on the clock.

Escalate to suk.

Oh and call the dealer workshop manager to inform them you have escalated it.

When I had issues once with a ford key that went wrong the dealer initially said it wasn't covered by the warranty, I just kept asking to be shown the wording where it was excluded.  After taking that line with everybody they passed me too they decided it was covered and provided a new key free of charge. I got the impression the dealer simply didn't want to complete some paperwork to claim back their costs from ford UK.

Take photo's of the current state for later evidence if things are not resolved to your satisfaction. No way should you be charged for any of this.

All sorted now. Had a call from the dealer, after SUK contacted them. Took the car in, 20 minutes all adjustments made, checked door alignment and that it closed ok. Much better, like new and also got a full refund, after SUK had a discreet word with the dealer... Result!!! It pays to complain right to the top!!!

Might be worth naming the dealer as they sound like chancers and will warn others using them for warranty covered items to be on their guard regarding spurious charges.
