Aren't recalls only safety related - brake failure, fire risk etc. Would a boot mechanism not be a service update?

yes a service update , some modifications were made to the boot catch on early models

Ive got a VAG sticker on my boot floor near the wheel well that has "boot catch mod" hand written on it and also "Furrows" who were the dealer that did it, theres no date when it was done but mine is a 58 plate, Not sure if that means it was a recall or just a good dealer, my car was a VW owned car before I had it so that might have had something to do with it also!
