New clutch slipped?

Featured Replies

Hi fellas, I've recently had a new single mass flywheel clutch kit fitted, after just a couple of thousand miles it's slipped I think. It won't go into 5th or 6th. It's noisy like a dmf when idle but press the clutch and it goes quiet. Slight vibration in gear stick in other gears. Please tell me it's not the gearbox.

Sounds like release bearing issues could be making the noise kinda hard to diagnose without seeing the car or stripping it down. Get it back to whoever fitted the clutch and get them to check it.

Thnx for the reply mike. Update...I pumped the clutch pedal numerous times and now it's going into all gears fine. But it's noisy when in neutral, noise goes away when clutch is down. Could the clutch have gone this early?

Generally if there's a noise that disappears after depressing the clutch it usually points towards the release bearing. If the noise was constant and still there I would suggest the pressure plate diaphragm fingers but as I stops when you depress I'd go with the bearing.

When they replaced the clutch do you know if they fitted a 2 price or 3 piece clutch?

Was it a genuine part?

It has been known for garages just to replace clutch plate and pressure plate and use the old release bearing only for that to fail a few months after, you take the car back and they charge for a new clutch and blame your driving style.

I'm not saying this is whats happened but it's unusual for a bearing to go so soon after having a clutch replaced.
