vacuum pipe disconnected from flying source EGR !

Featured Replies

As above people have advised me to do this with my asz engine instead of a delete pipe, so I blocked up the vac pipe the 20 mins down the road it threw up engine management light? Any pointers guys. I've plugged it back in and turned off the light

Surely if you've read that you can do this you must have seen warnings that this would happen??

Of course the light is going to come on. the engine thinks its broken.

you can either live with it and enjoy your extra 1900 bhp from your non working egr

Plug it back in and after a while the light will go off again.

get the engine management light mapped out.

OK that's fair enough lol, I'm going to be cleaning egr soon so im going to go from there.

buy the blanking plates from darkside, that way you can leave the pipe on. Cost £5 and shouldn't throw a light, might aswell if you are taking it off to clean anyway.

It seems to me that blanking the vac pipe causes exactly the same situation as blanking the exhaust feed but leaving the vac pipe on, in terms of what the ECU will see.

In the first case the valve will stay shut whatever the ECU asks for, so it will not see any changes in MAF or MAP sensor readings corresponding with what it might expect if exhaust gases joined the party.

In the second case the valve will open but no exhaust gases can flow because of the blanking plates, so the ECU will again not see the MAF/MAP changes it expects.

There isn't any direct feedback on the valve's mechanical position, and the vacuum pipe is a dead end whether the thing is blocked or pulling a diaphragm around, so I can't see one method giving a fault light and the other not doing.  Can anyone explain why this thinking might be wrong?

Ummm, Certainly on an ASZ, it's mapping to remove the likelihood of a CEL, as I understand it. Whilst on a BLT there may be some additional electrickery involved that results in a CEL even if the EGR volumes etc have been mapped out.

my ASZ fine but it depends if it's edc15 or 16 changed approx. '04

The metal pipe going from egr to manifold, would I know if this was leaking? Ie a loud blowing noise
