EGR Delete - Heads Up

Featured Replies

I managed to get hold of an EGR delete due to an error by a Brisky member and him not purchasing the correct one. I fitted it on Tuesday night and it only took around 20 minutes, which wasn't too bad and after it felt a lot smoother.

By Thursday I started hearing a progressive hissing sound coming from the engine and a loss in power, on closer inspection I found the EGR feed pipe had split causing all the exhaust gasses to escape through it. :wonder:

When/if you do this to your Fabia, delete it on the manifold and not at the top of the pipe. It takes a little longer but it has to be done. It's all sorted now and I've seen MPG go up too!

Which engine was this?

ASZ, but I think it would still apply to the BLT too.

Yeah it does but the BLT engine has the added complication of having an EGR cooler instead of just a pipe like above. So I think the coolant pipes need joining or the EGR cooler pipe needs replacing with the Darkside pipe.

Standard procedure on an Egr delete, but like you I did the same and thought I ****** the engine somehow lol.

I did the same around 5 years ago!

Simple mistake to make really! But when thinking about it rather stupid mistake too!

What a bunch of buffoons we all are

Potentially serious consequences too, I did the same and mine also split, in doing so it severly melted the brake fluid resevoir cap...coulda been bad if it had got a little hotter!!

Sounds like a fire waiting to happen, might be worth the people in the few group buys that were arranged getting this in a message.

Ive stil got the cooler in mine have dun for 4munth nw no issues grudge 30quid for darksides hose lol changing it when my other hoses appear

So have you blanked it off at the manifold then? What did you do to the top of the EGR pipe, the end that would otherwise be connected to the EGR valve?

Yes it's now blanked at the manifold, I threw it away, it's void as it leads nowhere. Both connections to where the pipe fitted are blanked off.

What egr pipe did u use allard or darkside and did u have an engine warning light on after fitted.

Both engines asz and blt throw a cel light!

Have to admit I was lazy and fitted the blanking plate to the pipe and not long after had the dreaded hissing noise! Doesn't take long to fit it to the manifold.

I fittd the blank at the top of the egr cooler and my egr delete hasnt throwin a light up either i havnt blankd at the manifold simply i grudge darksides coolant hose price so ive orderd red hoses for all my coolant 1s

I got the hissing noise and split pipe without even fitting a EGR delete and then paid £80 for a new pipe from the dealers like a complete mug lol

I used the one from the group buy on here, someone bought one by mistake so I bought it off them, Yes light is on but I'm going to try and turn the EGR settings down on VCDS and see if it turns the light off.

If we'd have both thought ahead, you could have had my unbroken pipe and we'd both be untroubled ha!

I was ranting about this the other day. Glad you've got it sorted

So on a BLT engine you put the blanking plate on the manifold, remove the EGR valve, and that's it?

Well apparently the EGR pipe is cooled on the BLT engine so you need the Darkside pipe to blank it at the manifold.

I run a BLT with the Allard kit, I removed the EGR valve and blanked the exhaust manifold. Never touched the cooler and mines has run fine for 3 years, had the EML mapped out by Shark.

It just makes sense to get rid of the cooler as well.

Just extra work for nothing.

Hardly!

Could you explain why the cooler has to be removed as mines is still in place, I take it you're a mechanic Phil?
