Any good independents around the Berks/Hants/Surrey border?

Featured Replies

I live in Farnborough at the top end of Hampshire, just wondering if anyone knows any good garages to go to nearish to me as my car's well out of warranty now and I'd like to plan ahead a little without having to worry about stealer prices for fixing things?

bit of a schlep maybe but get on the A3 down to JKM  Top work done there and they really know their VAG stuff.

Blimey, yeah that is a bit of a distance. Perhaps for anything major, but thanks for the shout.

Clive @cntuning is based near Bracknell. He maybe able to help.

Definitely need an indy now servicing time is up again!

Used the Phirm for other stuff in the past when I ran golfs; good but a bugger to get hold of. Any other ideas now a few years has passed??

I live in Guildford, so not sure how much this will help as you're a bit further west.

Audi VW Specialists in Leatherhead. Had one or two issues fixed by them and seem helpful and competent and I would use them in the future.

VAS Motion - Merrow (Guildford) - actually closest to me and I've heard good things. They're a performance VW Specialist as well.  Haven't used them yet but probably will try them due to convenience for me.

I've also used CT Cars near Horsley - not a very good experience. However, they seemed helpful but just were not on the ball doing the work and the car came back filthy every time it went there. I wouldn't go again.

I'm watching with interest, and any you try please provide some feedback, as I too, am in Farnborough.

I've used VAS Motion in Guildford for a number of years and they really know their stuff. They are also now authorised REVO dealers.

Mgm Milford are also very good. In facT car is going on there on Tuesday

Autobarn in Basingstoke or for me, I use TGM in fleet. Always have for my Type R and my wife works there so get a bit of discount. They also have a part time VW mechanic who works on my skoda.

Not quite your usual garage, but you get the truth and the hourly rate is pretty reasonable.

Aah, they fitted my whiteline RARB. I didn't know they had a tame VW mechanic though.

He's very recent, last few months I believe but a good lad. He stayed late to fix my snapped spring

What is it with garages not having working email addresses?!! TGM, Autobarn, AND Vasmotion either don't have emails or they don't work! Even called VAS to ask for one so they could reply and I can see it in black and white and was told they don't send quotes via email!!

We are living in 2016, correct?!

They could be worth a go. I have spoken to them about a technical issue before and been happy with the feedback - and also heard good things on the web - so I can give some level of recommendation, though obviously without the benefit of practical experience. They do have an email address on their website - but I have no idea if it works! :)

I would be inclined to speak to people directly though, or drop in if a garage isn't too far out of your way. I've often found many Trades can be pretty useless when it comes to email or messages.

I've used DPH Services in Andover a couple of times.  It's going to them again soon for a new timing belt, water pump etc.

Yes, I've tried the email route for mechanical work before and got about 1 in 8 reply, so it reduces your audience somewhat. I suppose it depends on the garage set up and whether or not they have someone sat in front of the computer to send email quotes out. Smaller operations seem to operate on the phone and a notepad or scraps of paper!

The phirm have recently moved from hartley witney to blackwater so very close to farnborough, they are one of the best vag tunning shops in the country i used them on my old octavia 4x4 and audi s4 i would highly recomend them just check out the website for details.

Any updates on this thread now a bit of time has passed? Looking to change my suspension in a few weeks so that with a service & mot could be useful to bundle the lot at one place near Farnborough. Might give TGM another go but got nowhere with them last time so mildly annoying. (given up on The Phirm... gone expensive now and don't get back to you!)

Anyone else?

Emailed VASmotion earlier and they rang me back within about half an hour. Their chap seemed to know his stuff (about Haldex). Might give them a try.
