Upgrade to Yeti?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys.

At the moment I have a 2013 Monty Carlo 1.6d. 9,000 miles

Was looking around the dealers today & was quite taken with the Yeti 2ltr D.

Dont really need a 2ltr, plus the tax disc rises toi £120.

So was thinking of the 1.6D

In your opinions, is this a good move or not. (as I cant make up my mind)

Currently getting 60 mpg on the Monty, & tax is £20.

Plus with the extra to change will I really get my moneys worth.

The extra room would be a useful addition tho, but not essential.

On a special they have a 2ltr '63 plate 5,000 4x4 Adventure with 5,000 miles @ £17K

I know these are silly questions but just need a shove in the right direction.....old age, a.

Ray.

Heavy towing?

No.

Just to use as an ordinary car.

Perhaps should look for something else?

Initially I like the looks of the Yeti.

It was the only vehicle that caught my eye in the sales yard.

Even looked round the VW section, but nothing I liked.

You'll like the elevated driving position if you drive around Devon.

Expect around 45 mpg from the 2.0 diesel (and a lot more road tax.)

Take one for an extended test drive.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

9000 miles and only a year old? - is the Fabia really THAT bad...?!

Al.

The big question you should be asking yourself = Why do you want to get rid of the Monte ?

It is low miles

It is Economical specially if you are really getting 60 mpg

Very Low road tax.

As you stated the Yeti

Higher road tax

Lower MPG ( specially with its boxy shape)

Probably higher insurance  as well.

That was the other thing we were thinking too, as well as the room.

No Al, its not that bad....BUT, Its just turning out to be extremely disappointing with ref to the steering pulling to the left.

After 6 wheel alignments 4 new tyres it still has a tendency to steer to the left. So to me, the Tyres are just masking the problem, not curing it.

Skoda has not been able to resolve the issue.

It seems there is no urgency with Skoda uk and we were feeling a little let down by them.

To be honest, we were thinking of going to another make altogether. Prob' is,

we can find one we both like.

This all may be a storm in a tea cup.

If only Skoda got their act together, we are more than happy with the Monte.

Its a great small car, sporty & has excellent road holding.

Skoda uk customer services, we were told are supposed to ring us. That was 3 working days ago.

The new tyres fitted last year to solve the issues had to be swapped Frt - Rear as the fronts had bad wear on the inner edges already. Even after 6 re alignments.

This was causing a bearing type noise coming up from the tyres.

So now the rears that they put on the frt will be doing the same, so before too long 4 new tyres will be required again.

This is the point I start to get angry with them. I'm giving them to the end of the week.

I am in a position to post as I had a Fabia mark2 until recently and am now a (very) happy Yeti man.

First and foremost YOU OUGHT NOT TO HAVE TO SPEND YOUR OWN DOSH TO CHANGE CARS WHEN YOURS IS UNDER WARRANY AND SKODA DEALER CAN'T FIX IT!

They have an obligation to sort out the problem so I suggest you ask them for a courtesy car whilst they sort it out and don't give them the keys back until you test your car to ensure it's fixed.

Skoda UK ought to help them with the problem and cost of providing the car.

Back to Yeti v Fabia. Lots more passenger room in Yeti but I think less boot with spare wheel option.

So many BRISKODA threads on Yeti benefits so will leave you to check them out.

Don't go to another make 'cos Skoda are (usually) excellent cars - see Auto Express Driver Power survey out last week.

If fuel economy is an important factor for you, perhaps you shouldn't be looking at a 2ltr 140 Yeti - although it's probably no better or worse than many other comparable lumps.  Click on my Fuelly record below and check the figures; while you're there, there's a link on the right-hand side of the webpage to other Yeti figures for comparison.  I'm not saying that these are gospel, because the data have been entered by interested users  rather than by saints

The tax is admittedly a bind, but we have to pay for our fun somehow...

It's a modern mini......small on the outside, large on the inside plus user friendly visibility from its high riding position.

To me its in its element tootling on minor twisties rather than speeding on motorways where it poor aerodynamics become apparent at the bowser.

Dare I mention, a great car of character to grow old with and so adaptable.

If you are really only driving 9,000 miles a year the question to ask is why get a diesel? The extra MPG you get will take many years to pay for the extra cost of a diesel over a petrol model and you will have concerns of DMF and DPF longevity.

I read that the diesel's 'wet' DSG6 is more reliable than the 'dry' DSG7 in the TSI . (?)

Out of the Yeti' so far I think the 1.6 Diesel Greenline 11 would be the better way to go.??

Also the 1.6D has a 25mm Lower suspension to improve aerodynamics.

Prefer a diesel to drive suits me better.

Had 2 Yaris diesels & have a diesel van.

Has anyone got the Yeti Greenline 11 1.6D with the 25mm Lowered option.??

Hi ,

Like the comparision with the Mini.

The Old Coopers went around corners like they were on Rails.

Maybe memory is failing but I think Yeti is better.

I Tow a 1300KG caravan and on recent trip found myself doing 130KM/hr, did not know Van was there,

nearly Cra**ped myself.

Pssst......what sort of van?

If you want a comparison, this is what our Yeti achieve in normal driving.

2.0 Diesel 170 4x4 = 47mpg.

1.2 Petrol DSG = 38mpg

1.6 Diesel Greenline = 53mpg.

You'll notice above some people with a diesel get bad fuel economy.

This is usually the DSG drivers as the Yeti has the old 6 speed DSG if it's a diesel and it makes a noticeable difference for the worst to fuel economy.

The 1.6 Greenline is fine for daily use, should average 50mpg and while not the quickest thing out there will cruise along in excess of the speed limit all day long, up or down hills.

My Mum has one.

Now on her second having had the first for 18 months.  Only changed colour from Aqua Blue to Shark Blue.

Loves it.

Lowered suspension is standard on the Greenline Yeti.

Carlo diesel, how are you progressing with original problem with Fabia? Let us know, Skoda should want to resolve it.

Can sympathise with the pulling left issue, as our Monte did it from day one on both factory 17" wheels and 15" winters. Likewise had a number of wheel/tyre moves, re tracks and eventually factory Dunlops replaced by new Pirelli's. However in our case it's now acceptable on both summers and winters.

Not driven a Greenline Yeti but from extensive use of a similar Octy II 1.6 TDI, then it should be a fine motor and would get my vote to replace the Fabia.

Spoke to Customer services guy a Mr Phil Singh.

He told me he was passing it on to Technical to resolve the issue.

I explained to him the problem was pulling from day one.

5 re alignments & 4 new tyres.

Now the front tyres are almost shot as the inner edges are badly stepped & will need replacing.

So much for 5 alignments.

Another alignment check last Friday 24th, changed  wheels  F-R.

So now I expect the good tyres from the rear to wear badly as well, as they say the alignment is good.

Right from the start I said fitting new tyres Masks the problem the car has got.

Skoda have said they will pay for two new tyres to replace the worn ones.

But the fronts now will start wearing in the same way.

I think we will give them another chance to get it right them as I imagine we will have to replace the car, but with what? Another Skoda???

Just over one year old & still a very dissatisfied customer.

If I had run my business like this I would have gone out of business years ago.

I can only imagine that something on the body construction is affecting the geometry of the car. Have you had someone drive behind you on the road. Quite often I follow cars where the body is out of line with the direction of travel.

Note to Mods, can the non-Yeti items be moved to the relevant section?

In all fairness Graham the guy was asked the question regarding his Fabia by a Yetiist and he did start the thread asking about Yeti ownership. :wait:

Agreed, but I thought that as the Fabia points were getting fairly specific it might have been better for them to be in the relevant section, and therefore more likely to get more exposure.

Who would be more interested?

I would have thought Fabia owners.
