Odd Columbus issue

Featured Replies

Hi, This is really starting to tick me off!!!!!!!!!!

When I leave the car I normally have the setting on the maps at 400yards (you know the display in the bottom right hand corner).

Every time, and I mean every time, I restart the car being the same day or next day or any time come to that, this seting has changed to something random. It can be anything from 200 yards to 1.5 miles.

I have hunted through the user manual and have found nothing.

Anybody got any ideas?

cheers

Have you got it set to 'Auto zoom'?

I'll check mine later to see what it does, but I think with the auto setting off it sticks at my last chose setting.

Hi KBPhoto,

Yes the auto setting is off. But it still won't keep my last setting.

Have you tried rebooting the Columbus? (Press <, > and i at the same time).

Worth a shot...

Mine always goes to a tiny scale, it shows about half the UK. It's a real pain - so there is a setting to prevent this is there?

Mine does not do this.

I'll take a look to see what I can find in any menus. I'll also look with VCDS to see if there is anything there, but I suspect not.

Mine seems to does this too, very annoying at times.

While on the subject of the Columbus Nav, mine seems to stop updating the Route on the screen, there is an Icon on the screen you can press that seems to re-centre it and it usually seems to be fine after that, anyone else have same problem?

Also really wish there was a way to edit the HD to delete all the Europe Maps cos I'm NEVER going to use them and at least then when it zoomed out it would still be over the UK. I'm curious, when I had my Insignia I had the option to install just the UK maps, is that not the case with Skoda?, as the Maps were pre-installed by the Dealer\Factory I had no control over it but if that is an option I may go back to Dealer and ask for them to re-install just the UK Map.

I normally keep the 'Autozoom' function active (the magnifying glass with the 'A' in it symbol goes grey) as this zooms the scale in and out according to speed and whether you're town or country. It stays in this state until I change it!

You can also zoom by turning the right-hand control knob of the Columbus - maybe you're touching the knob by accident? (Pressing the knob repeats the last navigation instruction.)

If you touch the screen (you can move the current position this way) a symbol appears beneath the direction indicator in the top right corner. That is there to tell you that you have taken it out of automatic tracking mode and so you need to touch that symbol to return it to automatic - that's normal operation.

There are of course many options that can be set using the map and navigation setup screens so it's worth going through every one of them to set them to suit your preferences.

There is a way to remove the foreign languages from the maps disk as these (probably) won't be needed.

There might be a way to remove unneeded maps as well.

If you don't use POI's, you could remove these and shrink or even remove that partition as well.

You'll also want to repartition your firmware disk to make the most of your new, lean map disk. This is also possible.

Since the whole of Europe & all languages only takes up a few Gb on the Columbus, I doubt you'll gain much useable space though.

If you really want to follow this through, Josi on 'VW Navi' forum is probably the person to contact.

If you touch the screen while it's navigating it stops following the car and the map stays still. Not sure if it's so your passenger can have a look around the map etc while you're driving. Pressing the top right button below the north arrow fixes it back on the car and continues tracking the route. Think the maxi dot nav instructions work while the map is off centre though.

Tried re-booting, hitting it with a stick - no change. Looks like I will have to live with it, at least I am not alone with this "feature".

What part number and firmware is your Comumbus?

A firmware upgrade may sort it out.

Will have to take a look.

Mine does this as well. One day it'll be 400yds and then something completely different. It was 2.5 miles this morning.

I've done a firmware update and it made no difference at all.

I've got the latest v10 maps and the speed camera POIs so I might take them off and see if it makes a difference.

I've got a few irritating niggles on my car at the moment. This is one of them.
