On the Sussex Downs

Great weekend with the Sussex 4x4 Response Team on the Downspost-99097-0-20938000-1398724316_thumb.jpg

That would have been fun.

I popped over to Wales and did this:

Because I got my slightly modified, FL muddy,

How did you enjoy Strata Florida then, RH?

I wish 4x4 Response Wales would organise something like that, but the only thing they now do is at Llanerchindda Farm and it costs nearly £200!!!

It was amazing. I really enjoyed it, but I was on edge the whole time as I punctured the side wall of my front o/s tyre right at the beginning on a jagged rock under water. I discovered at the end, that the rear o/s tyre was also punctured on the side wall (probably on the same rock) but thankfully was a slow puncture, so just pumped it up a couple of times on the way home. Two new tyres on order.

I doubt the Yeti would make it due to it being so much lower with a lot less ground clearance. The water I went through was a least twice the wading depth of the Yeti, and probably more.

There was a standard Freelander with us for part of the weekend, but it was scraping the ground all the time, as lots of places there was no option but to use the ruts. The standard Freelander we thought would not have made it along Strata Florida.

I had no clearance issues with the extra 70mm that I have, which made al difference.

It really impressed the guys I was with who had lifted P38 and a lifted Defender 90.

I didn't take it down Happy Valley because, not having rock sliders, I would have modified the side of my car on the rocks in not a good way. It had the clearance though to cope.

Crossing the river....

Driving along the track....

Lets see some more Yeti action guys....

One of the reasons I changed to the Freelander was because I wanted to do this, and the Yeti, well mine at least could not cope with it.
