smd's interior lights

Just to clarify your observations. The reason you see voltage leaking is because of the CAN-BUS system. It needs a low current to check if the bulb is working correctly. In a normal filament bulb there's a high resistance in the wire hence the CAN-BUS will see it as OK. Normally a LED bulb is driven from a digital driver, which are very cheap in 2014. This also means, that it will let the current go to the LED and it will eventually glow a little, because the crystal on the LED is very sensitive. Some, as you've probably found out, LED's have a built in resistor, that will eliminate the CAN-BUS current and therefore not be affected.

Even though there's a low current to the LED bulb does not mean it will make your battery flat. After you turn off the engine and lock the doors, there will be a 10-20 min (depending on ECU type, firmware etc.) period where the car will allow current to be drawn. But the main relay will cut all power after the above time and no power will then be drawn from the battery except the crucial parts.

My LED's in my Rapid are Philips. They are not CAN-BUS ready and therefore glow a little. I had all 'bulb out' warnings disabled via VCD's where the LED's are fitted. Not problems after that. (they still glow vaguely, but i actually think it's nice while driving at night).

Cown, thank you for your explanation.

I'll have to try this 10-20min timeout and see if they really go out. In my Golf MK5 MY2007 they went completely out as soon as i locked the car. This is not the case in Rapid. I'll try and report the results.

Which Philips led bulbs do you have installed? can you post a link?

thank you

I had to play around with various types of LED,s in my Citigo to find ones that went completely out after as a few I had would glow after. Anyway all sorted now with a nice VW interior light too :)

The first two links look great show a light on each side.

I only have one installed by default.

The last two are more lime modding with a movie modern spotlight xD

Let me know if choose and install one of these :-)

Zove, did you buy your bulbs from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/hqautolighting/ ?

btw, Cown..i installed non can bus leds inside of a car..and locked it and left it for an hour to see if main relay will cut off the power..it didn't :(

anyway...fun fact..i installed two non-canbus leds for licence plate..everything ok, it works like a charm. no warning light on the instrument panel and it looks fabulous :D

i was very suprised, because i was expecting a lot of trouble - or at least that i should install canbus leds.

i checked the controller with vcds...checkboxes for lamp diagnostics are all unchecked (factory setting)

Funny, mine does, how long have you tried waiting? How bout waiting all night and check in the morning?

Your battery would not run flat by them glowing anyways, it would take forever for them to drain a car battery.

checked the lights today (after more than 24h) and they are still a little lit. i'm ordering the blubs Zove got (with canbus).
