Dashcams ?

Featured Replies

I have noticed the price is now reasonable for dashcams, you can get one that records in pretty decent quality for the £40 mark.

But, I presume these are not able to record while parked, ergo no parking incidents captured ?

I know the one I was looking at (E-PRANCE E700) has g sensors, but they would only record after the event.

Also, you would then need one rearward facing as well as frontward, so doubling the cost.

I presume they don't work for long under their own power. So as someone who hates lose wires in the cabin, is it easy enough to keep it all tidy without taking apart the interior ?

Also, having one left in the car might make increase the chances of a break-in attempting to steal it ?

It's doable to run the wiring through the headlining then down the trim panels with a false socket in the fuse box or similar.

As you have an Oct3 look in that section as there is a dedicated dashcam setup thread.

Another E-prance camera, the New mini 0801 does have an internal battery, athough it only lasts around 20 minutes. Video quality is excellent though, you can easily see the registration number of cars, even those moving quickly. Far better than any other camera I have tried.

My problem though is the opposite to yours. The camera starts recording (in roll over mode, keeping ths last several hours of video) as soon as it gets power. You do not need to turn it on with the button.

However, since on the Superb the lighter socket is always powered, even when the car is locked, it means the camera is always on, maybe not something you want. You can turn the camera off manually with the button but I think if you do so then you have to turn it on manually again.

The Mobius gets regular firmware updates and now has motion detect to auto record. I have not used this as I have mine hard wired into a switched live ignition feed, in theory I could put it on a permanent live and then leave front and rear cameras in that mode so they record movement around car. Perhaps someone else with one on here has tried it out??? If any camera is left recording permanently I can't see them draining the battery unless it is for several days (a few times I left my old DoD GS600 on for 5 days by mistake and it had multi axis g sensors and GPS etc as well as recording constant 1080p at 30fps) just had about 8 hours of the front of my old work recorded after it filled the 32gb card again and again lol). The only draw back would be that memory card will fill and overwrite itself automatically if on all the time and you might catch something then loose it.

Wires about the car are my enemy! I did a guide when I hardwired in my Mk2 FL Octy it equally applies to more or less any car. The Octy III just has fuse box on opposite side as far as I am aware. No real dismantling of interior involved, cheap, easy and anyone can do it. I went way more complex when fitting to the MG and now a couple of months later I am ripping it all out to put in my new car when I collect it tomorrow...... THE JOYS!
