Top caps higher when car is lowered. Problem solved !

Featured Replies

Ok folks i posted this topic a will back after lowering my car with 40mm H+R lowering springs. (i have some pics missing but if you scroll down you'll get the idea)

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/288949-is-this-the-norm-after-lowering-my-fabiapics/

Here's a pic of the problem.

And this is how it looks now..

So this is how i done it. First i ordered 2 polo 6n2 top caps part No.6N0412319 .£5.70 each, Polo ones on the left.

You can see yourself that the polo one is a lot smaller.

Take the old skoda ones off and cut around 15-20mm of the bottom.

Then file of and clean up the cut end.

Next thing is to take the rubber of the polo cap as so...

Then take the rubber of the skoda cap and turn the rubber upside down and replace it back onto cap and place the polo cap on top...

And now its ready to refit ....

And just incase your wondering why not just fit the polo caps, well there just a tad too small on there own. So now lads when you go airborne in your Vrs your suspension will not fall out of the strut turret :giggle:  :giggle:  :giggle:  Thanks for looking ,Good luck and any questions just ask

A good post.

But a small point on the top cap with a car not lowered,

the cap sits high as in the first picture in your post.

Mines only raised up like this after the car was lowered ...odd one . As you can see from the original thread there was a few people this had happened to after lowering.

Did your car have what Skoda call 'Sport Suspension' as an option in the first place?

Not sure it was an elegance model.

Just an idea.

Those with standard Monte Carlos that are 'pulling to the left'

could maybe look at the space on their cars,

& see if the same space as you show in the first picture and in mine,

and the same space each side, or different space at each side.

I've just noticed the plastic dome cover on the left side (looking from the grille side of the car) has cracked around the threaded bit. What's more, it seems to be sat at exactly the right height to be rubbing on a taped up electrical (I presume) cable.

I assume it's OK to remove the plastic cover and leave the whole top end of the strut "naked" as per George's  pictures?

Not if you are going to have loads of water/condensation under the bonnet.

(Well whats the harm in Australia.)

I removed the cap for taking the picture,

& put it on the other side, where the cap is missing,  lost sometime long ago over the moon sky.

PS,

in the linked thread i see that 'sharkrider' has nice shapely plastic caps!

Yes, those are the cups. Good point on the water. I might have to get a new one.

You could just put the Gaffer Tape over the top.

Its a bit expensive probably for me to send you my odd cap.

I have cap envy and want ones like sharkriders that look about a B cup.

Fried eggs, though.

Unfortunately when you do the polo cap mod there is no real thread left to screw the plastic cover onto as seen in pic so i will just brush plenty of grease around the top of the threaded bit that's showing and the nut......

It would be interesting, to me anyway,

to see how OzFabia's looks now lowered with his new set up, and maybe newbie69's as well.

Yo dude have you any side on pics.

Mine looks like this with my HR Coilovers.

By the way those covers break so easily - in the pic is the one I bought 2 months ago. Again broken.

I think I will glue the side and then put a small tie wrap around it. If someone want's to get them code is 1J0 412 359

O.C.D,

the side on pictures are in post # 2,   Standard front vRS Suspension.

EDIT,  Doh, sorry,

did you mean side view of the car on stilts with standard suspension?

  • Author

No dude the side on of the caps is what i was after .MMmmmm the polo cap mod would sort that out. ! Just to get this right ...your car is not lowered.???

That is standard, as they leave the factory.

No need to worry about the suspension falling off on jumps, or struts moving,

they dont as standard.
