On occasion my car refuses to start with the key. There isnt a sound. Sometimes it starts on the second attempt. Sometimes it takes longer but so far it always starts eventually. At some stage it will not I assume.

sound like the solenoid on the starter motor (wiring ) or the solenoid its self other things it maybe are the key it,s self if you have a spare try the spare see if that helps and find out if the car is fitted with a starter relay is the car petrol /diesel check the battery terminals that they are tight hope you find a cure

could also be a faulty ignition switch
