Radio reception

Featured Replies

Any idea why my Octavia radio reception is so poor? I've read that the aerial is powered...which might be a line of enquiry. The radio/cd is original as fast as I can tell, but there is a multichanger in the back which I assume was retro-fitted.

FM reception is poor to say the least and MW/LW is literally non existent. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Nic.

The aerial base will need replacing as they're notoriously poor!

Thanks for that.  Part ordered and I'll let you know how I get on.

Best,

Afternoon!

Found this thread because I managed to break the external flexible part of the aerial by putting fence panels on the roof rails without realising that you could fold the aerial down flat with the roof - finally broke completely on Saturday whilst doing about 80 on the M4 => awful knocking noise as it bounced repeatedly on the roof! :D

I'm pretty sure the amplifier in the base is OK because reception was fine before this happened, and I could still get some FM stations quite well afterwards with only about the lower 3" of the aerial still there!

Therefore I need to replace the spirally-wound flexible part, and I've been reading how you do that - but what flexible aerial should I buy as they seem to vary from about £7 for a cheap aftermarket replacement to about £30 for what seems like a complete genuine Skoda/VAG part (and then onwards and upwards to 2-3x that price!)?
