Dealer activated optional features

Recommended Posts

Backup camera yes, did it myself. Works a treat! 2 Options, the "Audi" version which has the bending lines on the display when you turn the wheel, or the "poor mans version" with just the yellow straight lines. I have the second one. 160€'s from cars-equipment;

There are (to my knowledge) no versions that fit the handle of the Superb's trunk release, so you have to......use a dremel.......and cut a hole between the trunk release handle and a license plate. It's a bit nerve wracking, but doable. Fitting the cable from behind the Columbus to the trunk is a right bugger though. Definately worth the effort, one of my better mods!

Ah, learned something about Kessy :-) Thanks!

If I'm understanding you correctly this is the feature where you can indicate 3 times with 1 push of the stalk. This can be modded with VCDS to anything between 1 and 5. I have mine set to 5, as I execute lanechanges like an old woman so I need the extra blips...also, when you're on a roundabout and you want to indicate quickly but traffic slows you down, sometimes 3 blips still sees you on the roundabout, I prefer the 5.

I had the reverse cam with trajectory line installed.

Beside those Vagcom things that have been mentioned, u can try our luck and ask dealer to enable xds under your abs module.

as to what it do, u can google "vw xds" and have a read

Oh wow. Where did you get that done? That's amazing. I thought that with the reversing cam you would lose all the other bits like the sensor diagram.

Ya. Sort of supervise the installation while my guys do the work of removing the panels.

It's a bit different from other reverse cam where reverse light signal are tap to trigger while this cam is activated via canbus signal to the controller box

Hi "Too Tall" me again!!

With regard to dvd on the go, is it safe to carry out this mod e.g. is it likely to brick the unit?

Cheers

With VIM, not likely. The only thing that could brick a unit in my view is a complete firmware update going wrong. So that's something I trust a local lad to do.

Thanks once again, I will be taking delivery of my ne Superb on 21st and I have already spoken to the dealer re: some of the options to activate, also spoke to Skoda UK customer service who confirmed the navigation disc and firmware would be the latest.

regards

Some things the dealer will do, other things (like VIM) are unlikely. But it's a easy job, you'll be sure to find someone who can.

Regarding promises from SUK concerning the "latest" of everything, I would not hold high hopes... The map should be version V10 (West-Europe 8048), you can check the DVD that comes with the car for this. Firmware should be any of these;

http://www.my-gti.com/3983/volkswagen-rns-510-hardware-and-software-firmware-versions

The one I have is 4120, you can see on the list above which version is the latest. No further benefits in my case if I would upgrade beyond 4120, so I'm going to leave it at that currently.

To check the firmware, do this;

You can see this Columbus is running 3984 FW.

The only benefit to upgrade to 5238 is the faster touch screen response.

So far, there's little review on the 6xxx series of firmware but like you said. No major changes to give the push to upgrade.

What most vim disc does is that it's a firmware cd that is strip of all content except the header and one liner that rewrite the speed cut off for the screen from 15km/h to 300km/h.

So if you want to revert back, just amend that line and burn a new disc

Do I need to as the dealer for this vim disc, or is it given as part of the columbus system?

Driving with DVD playing is an offence is quite a few countries. Not sure about yours but all these are considered illegal modification.

I tot you would know.

Hi Sony

Thanks for your comments, I'm not sure about the UK with respect to the legality of on the go dvd.

I didn't mean the vim disc, It was the dvd that Too Tall mentioned that should come with the car,the dvd which states what firmware will be on my columbus, is that automatically given with a new car or do I request it from the dealer?

Sorry for the confusion.

The DVD that comes with the car is the map only. It should be V10, Version 8084 For Western-Europe (most current)

The Firmware is on the Columbus itself, it is not supplied on a DVD. You can check the FW version using the Columbus, as shown in the Youtube video above. I would take a printout of the page above that lists all the FW versions when you go pickup the car, when you see the version on your Columbus is quite old, demand the dealer to update to the most current version. They will most like humm and haww, and offer you something instead (vouchers for maintenance, or vouchers for the Skoda Shop, etc) I would take the deal offered, and then take my car to a local VCDS specialist to have all the tweaks done, the FW upgrade, and the VIM.

The VIM is a 'hack', it is a little file burned onto a DVD that removes the speed restriction on the Columbus. It is safe to use, however it's also illegal. Hence you propably don't want to ask your dealer about this.

Thanks again Sony, I understand what you are saying!!

Should I ask the dealer for the map dvd, or is a given that you get the map dvd with the car?

Thanks for your patience in answering my questions but this is all new to me.

Regards

Picked up the new Superb Elegance today, " master technician" said couldn't change coming home lights to fog, or enable xds, apparently not available! Of course I have no way of proving it right or wrong. Any views can this be done on vcds?
