Wing colour doesn't match? Help

Featured Replies

Hi, I got a replacement wing from a vrs, same colour 8180 rally red but when I put it on you can see a big difference in shade? Is there any thing I can do??

Id say it was resprayed?

or the paint has aged differently depending on the weather.

Could try a serious machine polishing and restorer all over to bring it all to the same level?

the upside down pic makes it a tad harder to visualise

My cars the same although its silver and had all four corners resprayed because of corrosion.

The shade is slightly deeper and was told its the age of original paint and thats weathered. Was advised a good machine polish would bring it up better, just having time and equipment.

Drives me mad seeing it in different shades but my partner says ive got OCD n you cant tell lol.

g3 mate thats the stuff to use expensive tho

Are you sure its rally red, might be 8181 corrida red off of a later model vrs,it's supposed to be slightly darker. Having similar problem matching reds dew to ageing.

The car I got it off was a 8180 rally red, I think it's my original paintwork looks more pinker... Orange colour going to try g3 machine polish and see what happerns, reds red it's hard to match for some reason :s

red is not red..... just like silver isnt silver...

red in particular though tends age faster than other colours, due to how it absorbs and reflects Infrared and UV spectrum lights.

thus why so many old red car are pretty pink.

if one car was kept out, and the other in a shed or shady parking spot, there will be differences in the paint breakdown.

So there isn't no way you can get red back to a showroom condition? Or is that impossible?

*cough" *cough" RE-spray...

even a re-lacquering might help.

I resprayed some clear coat on some minor scratches and scuffs and where the laquer has peeled.

Those spots look factory again...the rest not so much....

trying to source 2 days of good weather/ gazebo... (no garage at my house)

and someone with a machine polisher i can borrow to do a serious job on the paint work :D

I would G3 the replacement wing , the bonnet and the door to see if you can blend them together. It is either wrong colour of paint on wing or paint is  faded on wing or other original  panels.
