Coolant/Temperature Gauge issue

Featured Replies

I have an issue with my temperature gauge in that permanently sits halfway in between the correct 12 o'clock position and the starting position. Is that likely to be a coolant sensor issue?

I did replace it 3 years ago actually for the same blimmin issue and it seemed to sort it for a year or so but went wrong again. I'm wondering if it's something else? Any ideas?

I recently had a very similar problem, I was advised that the fault was the thermostat so i had that changed to no effect so a temp sender unit was fitted, problem solved.

Hope this helps.

Yea, thanks mate...any idea where I can buy one these days?

In your case buy an OEM replacement from a Skoda dealer.

Cool, is it that easy? Can I just pop in and buy one!?

Right, well it's installed! Sadly however, the temperature gauge only reaches 3/4 of the way (1/4 more than before) but still not right. Hmph. Unless it takes a few days to wear in? I would expect it to have worked immediately, took the car out for 10 mins and it wouldn't budge past 3/4.

Any thoughts on what the next thing to try is? :/

Thanks!

I'd say the next thing would be the thermostat.

Definitely the thermostat, it'll be stuck partway open or broken.

Cheers guys, I should have tried that before changing the coolant sensor. D'oh! Live and learn I suppose :)

Oh well, at least you know it'll all be right when you're done :)

Haha very true Lee!

So I just bought one (this one here) but not sure if I can fit it myself. Is it relatively straight forward? I have a 1.4 16V!

It's fiddly due to the proximity of the gearchange linkage and cables.
