Get the VRS breaks.

I would if i could and depending on the price.

Wouldn't want breaks on my car - would prefer brakes!

But a more serious point: as far as I am aware, there isn't much wrong with the brakes on an Ocatvia, except possibly for track use, but presumably most people would already be using a VRS if they were going in for competitive driving anyway.

So the main reason would, as you are honest enough to say, be for the looks - and there's nothing wrong with wanting your car to look good.

Just a suggestion, but many people wouldn't spot bigger discs, so why not just paint the calipers a nice bright colour instead?  Much less cost, and you could use the money you save to get a re-map.  I'm sure there are people on here who could recommend suitable paint.

Oh I don't know, the stock brakes are a bit weak after some fairly hefty use.

Fine for normal pottering about, good pedal feel etc but for me they are the weak link on my car along with the OE bridgestones.

I have a set of 312mm carriers ready to go on mine when the first set of pads are shot.

That said, a 1.6 diesel doesn't seem worth spending the money on bigger brakes, especially if its for looks rather than function.

As far as i Can se i wrote BRAKES.... F*** it..

Its all about the details... - and im not going to paint the calipers on my silly Small brakes.. - it would make them look a lot smaller in the barrels of my 19x9" Bentley splits.....

Yes, 19x9 on a 1.6tdi....

Its NOT a race car... Its a Daily driven 'show' car...

Im NOT upgrading to get better performance, im upgrading for the looks!!!

I drive 140km ++ a Day! thats why i choose to buy a economical car, not a sports car..

Im not asking if you Think Its a good idea or not....

Steady Tonto!

I'm not saying you should or should not change them.

I was surprised you are considering that wheel size on a not very powerful car.

If you are going for that size wheel why not fit the Porsche boxster brakes? 312mm discs will look small behind 19" rims

Here are some info for 312mm setup.

EBay item number 141025131030 caliper carriers

Carparts4less pagid discs item number 104441508

Pads are your choice. But OE padgid type are probably best as the 1.6 won't tax yellow stuff ebc pads...

How about these:

Left TTRS set and on the right OEM vRS brakes. Going to fit that set on the upcoming weekend. Hope they fill my 9x19" Speedlines nicely...

Can i have the vrs breaks:)

A worthwhile mod on a Vrs. What with having a bit of poke and handling.

£210 and some pennies for my 288mm - 312mm upgrade.

I bet that TTRS set up is a couple of quid more :-)

I upgraded to 312mm VRS as I wanted to be able to fit 16" Steel Winter rims.

Difference is huge, rest assured.

Our puma currently has better brakes than the Octavia. I put the st150 set up on that. The stock 260mm brakes felt archaic compared to the Skoda.

Changed to ST stuff and now its the Skoda that's falling behind in the brake department.

Im going to fit the vrs stuff this weekend. Sod wearing the old stuff out :-)

I've just put mk6 GTI setup on the front of my Scout (Mainly in order to retain the 16" winter wheels) and interestingly the calipers are identical, its just the carriers and discs that are slightly bigger.

A 1.6tdi with those brakes is asking for trouble in my opinion, will look good though. It will be severely overbraked, so mind you don't throw yourself through the windscreen

312mm disc behind a 16" wheel. Disc fills it nicely.
