You have misread what I said, Mike. It is the fact that Castrol TXT meets specs VW 502 00 and 505 00 which makes it suitable for petrol and diesel engines on fixed servicing. The 502 00 spec is for petrol engines and 505 00 for diesel, hence that one oil is suitable for both types of engine. An oil meeting spec VW 505 00 only would not be suitable for petrol engines. Clear?

The Owner's Manual is quite clear on what spec oils should be used for the various of engine and servicing intervals - its all on pages 128 and 129. All I have to remember for my 1.8T on variable servicing is that I need a spec VW 503 00 oil. The same message applies to other Skoda owners.
