Furby vRS - heavy steering

Featured Replies

I'm mentioning this because I've read one or two comments elsewhere about steering going heavy on the vRS. It's probably a wierd one-off on my car, but I'll share it anyway.

Steering's always been on the heavy side on my car because of the front strut brace and 'cos I run my front tyres at 32psi. But I noticed recently it was becoming quite stiff to turn. I traced the problem to the rubbery soundproofing layer applied to the floor and bulkhead in the driver's footwell. Where the steering column passes through the bulkhead, a chunk of this sticky, rubbery stuff had wrapped itself around the steering column and was interfering with free movement.

Removed the stuff and pressed the remaing bit back down on to the floor around the column and the steering is now noticeably lighter.

I had this shortly after i got my car :)

interesting....

You should have asked - mine's at 32psi (or 2.2 bar - as per the manual) and has front strut brace - steerings too light as per usual.

Don't know which manual you're looking at, but it ain't the vRS. Book pressure is 2.3bar (34psi) front and 2.2bar (32psi) rear. Check the data on the inside of the fuel filler flap...

Mine's 2.2 all round - both in manual and fuel cap, of this I am 100% sure.

Mine's the same as Phil's. 34/32. Check the tyre sizes inside the filler cap, it's not very clear upon first sight...

Then Skoda must have changed their recommended pressures for the '05 model year. I've double checked mine and it's deffo 2.3 front 2.2 rear.

Mine's an 05 model year and it's 2.3/2.2...

Hmmm. We can't all be right!

That's what it says!:)

I've allways followed 2.3/2.2 for the vRS.

Thanks for the heads up on the heavy steering, will remember that one just in case.

Checked my service invoice from a couple of weeks ago and Skoda also put the tyres at 2.2

It sounds like I've been well and truly outnumbered so I looked again and it's defo 2.2 bar all round inside the filler cap.

Wierd.
