does anyone actually like this look?

Featured Replies

I saw this fine example on the motorway a few days ago. Stanced the cheap way. Have to admire the bravery of the driver, given the speed they were coming past in that. It looked a lot worse in reality, all the area above the wheel was mashed in. I kept well away.

I see absolutely nothing in that photo what resembles "stanced"

That citroen just looks like its been driven into a kerb and alignment knackered.

  • It looks crap and broken.  And the driver will be constantly bleating about how the  Police victimise him as well no doubt.

  • Awwww that Hitler car just looks depressed :(

Well to me stanced cars look broken :) It was hit by something and its got a lot of camber on one side.

It does look like its had a whack. .rear is running negative camber n front looks like its running positive camber. . Certainly not low enough to be stanced tho.

My "stanced" fabia

I know this well.  My 106 Rallye was becoming more stanced as the days went by until I replaced the rear axle.  It was gently collapsing into itself but when replaced it looked like a different car.

Well, I can't comment really as this is the standard 'stance' of the Vectra.

Does this make me a chav?! :(

Nout wrong with keeping your car/bike clean!

After a 5 hour washing, drying, clay baring, polishing and waxing, the last thing i need is windscreen washer fluid sprayed over my roof.

I too am OCD haha

Nothing wrong with keeping it clean..  But 5 hours?  Bloody hell, I can wash dry, vacuum and dust the vRS and SWMBO's Monte Carlo in that time and still sit and watch a film with the little one afterwards.

No.

It's driving a Vauxhall that does that.  :giggle:

Very true.  I still haven't got round to buying a baseball cap yet and I'm ashamed to admit I've only ever been to a McDonalds twice in my life.  I really should make more of an effort if I'm to fit in with the local cruise scene....

Cars are for driving, not taking pictures of.

All I've seen is photos of where young dumb and full of ----

lads have deliberately handicapped their cars so they look

(what they consider to be..) nice in pictures. Simultaneously destroying

the driving dynamics which minds far greater than theirs have spend millions

on researching, testing and applying.

What would an actual car designer/engineer know eh???

Kevin with the demon tweeks charge card obviously knows how to do

things right, how could the brains at VAG compare with that?

Pretty odd statement that.

How does the aftermarket world work then?... A rear arb greatly improves the handling characteristics of say a mk1 octy vrs. If the vag brains were the dons then why wasn't it fitted as standard? Same as maps, Coilovers, fmic's etc. they all improve on what the so called genius's thought up.

It's all about different tastes, not everyone likes what the next person is doing but that's up to them, you might like go and others might like show.

If everyone liked the same thing the car world would be a boring place ;)

Cost is the reason they don't put those things on stock

ordinary shopping cars, not lack of know how or failing to see

that better shocks or lighter wheels wouldn't be a good thing.

They are constrained by budget and that's the only reason they

don't add these things as standard items.

I'm not saying modding is bad or stupid or even a waste of money.

Spending the extra on better shocks or improved brakes or a high

performance engine map is fine with me. It adds something to the car.

What I am saying is spending good money on modding a car to take away

from it and make it look daft enough to alert every plod in a 10 mile radius

and function less well into the bargain is dumb.

It doesn't make sense to me. I must be getting old...

It's like me buying a house and then smashing all the windows.

It no longer keeps the rain out but it looks sick innit, like some nutter lives there.

In the same vein, mucking about with the camber to that extent, or lowering

so far you can't see the tops of the tyres or having massive wheels on your car

that are so big they don't fit the arches has made that car less functional than it

was before the modification took place.

It's okay so long as you're travelling on a smooth straight road but add any or all

of the following, a corner, a bend, a bump  a sudden direction change or stop, a pothole

some passengers or a speedhump and suddenly you're driving a mobile Joey Deacon.

And the HILARIOUS thing is that these guys tend to use the 'performance' variant of the

particular car as a base (Whichever is cheap and trendy to ruin the look of this month) as well.

If someone can tell me why this makes sense then please do...

'I want the quickest version....' What so you can make it slower than a boggo one?

Now tell me it's not about fashion and badges. Why is a slammed (ruined) vRS

better than a slammed 1.4 classic or whatever? In my mind they are both ruined equally.

Both just as nickable to Mr Plod and just as dangerous as one another too.

All you need to do now is fit some tyres that are too small for the wheels they are going

on and hey presto, one pile of crap I wouldn't buy even if it meant I'd have to walk

everywhere forever if I didn't.

I've got a big sledgehammer in the shed, If someone wants to pay me to come

round and make their cars work worse I'll do it for cheepz.

 Made me smile, I haven't heard that for years!  Not very pc nowadays, but then again it was the 80s.  Happy days.

Seeing as we're heading down memory lane, I wonder if one of these would handle better than some of those stanced cars?

article-2047593-0E4AFF2600000578-496_468

I agree that ridiculous camber is pointless and looks pants, a little isn't a bad thing though, mine drives no different apart from being firmer, it'll steer in better than the stock set up.

Look at drift cars for example, camber up front gives a much better turn in and aids a better lock to lock. They wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

It's all down to personal taste again.

Your not paying enough attention to detail then ;).

Thats a wash, clay bar, another wash, polish, buff off, wax, buff. Then, windscreen cleaner and back to black on the plastics.

I didnt even do the inside in that time :).

But once its done properly, every quick was after for a fair few months is a lot easier and gives better results :).

I forgot this thread was here, my car (pictures on prev. page) has 20" and Air suspension and fast cornering and driving are not an issue. I have good tyres fitted and my air suspension have Bilstein shocks with firestone bags, I might be wrong but im fairly sure that an airbag is far stiffer than a coil spring?

As for the " XXX spends trilions on designing that" arguement, You're quite right. But different types of components serve different purposes. For example Coilovers lower the car to give a better a centre of gravity and stiffen the chassis to seriously reduce body roll, perfect for if youre trying to upgrade your handling and improve the look of your car. But do you think Margret from no.64 cares about that or does she want her car to be nice and smooth to get her to the shops?

The tyre wear on the inside of the wheels must be horrendous, a pair of shoes won't last anymore than a couple of months surely!?

JRJG

Yup. Thats why people on a budget go for budgets or part worns (the ones that i know anyway)

All does wonders for your cars handling of course.

Depends how a coilovers is set, as to how hard it is, and how good quality they are.

Its hard to compare them to bags, cos a bagged set up is a couple of Thousand and most kids coilovers are about £400 and then set as low/hard as possible.

A decent set of coilovers at a decent ride height shouldnt give a bad ride quality IMO.

Stance-Happy or modding your car for track day fun.

Surely given the broad variety of car enthusiasts we have on here, it's not a case of us and them, stanced or non-stanced?

This is far more about the little scrots that do a half arsed job of modifying their cars.

I bet burks probably gets as steamed and upset about people 'stancing' grotty cars on the cheap cutting springs etc to get low and then riding around in it filthy and poorly maintained just the same as I would expect Grrr and others to shake their heads when little Jimmy £100 coilover kit talks about the sweet ride comfort and F1 handling in his '96 plate Corsa, which is putting out an extra 50bhp for the cone filter intake he has fitted.

If you must do something to your cars, whatever it may be, just do it right!

^^^

Spoken like a true sponsor.

Diplomacy in action.

Behind a golf the other day with silly wheels and lowered to hell. I thought awesome. You made a car go faster. Then wet myself when he practically stopped every meter for a pothole. Speed bump or blade of grass in the road.

I don't think anyone with a stanced car would say they've done it to improve the handling. It is done to make the car look better and just because they can. "Low n slow" I believe is the philosophy.

It's their car and their money. What harm is it doing to you?
