Power steering pump/system hiss vRS

Featured Replies

I know there's a 'Creak' thread. But my steering hisses on full lock. Normal?

Yup!

The steering is under a lot of pressure when on full lock and it's the sound of the fluid being pumped hard/under pressure.

Sounds normal to me, the same as with most cars I've owned.

Unless you have a Mini and then the power-steering hisses all the time.

(Can't say I've noticed it on the Octavia but I do normal listen to my music pretty loud)

Nope, the steering is electric so no fluid or pump.

Is it electric pump pumping the fluid (like the MK2 Octavia) or completely electric?

Well I've learnt something new today :)

In that case then a hissing sound surely isn't normal.

I've noticed ours doesn't hiss but our old Cordoba did (with electro-hydraulic steering).
