My water leak - just wonder what could it be

Featured Replies

Seems to be in expansion tank area roughly speaking, I guess I need to get the engine tray out for a better look

Could it be water pump suddenly leaking perhaps ?

Not a bad time for it to go if it is, as I'm about due a new one and belt ! :)

Could be. Gotta be a seal between the bit that's moving in water and the bit that's moving in air.

Check where the heater pipes go through the bulkhead.

mines loosing water sometimes takes a week for the light to come on normally after a wellying looked underneath looks wet under by drivers side but no obvious leaks i'm hoping water pump as im changing that along with belt on weekend if no joy im think heads cracked just an excuse to machine exhaust ports out on donor head :)

Thanks, I'll take a look, I got up an inspection mirror from aldi as a gift, may help a bit.

Firstly the cap on expansion tank are renound for failing!! So for the sake of a few quid ide change that and the whole bottle there only £7 for the bottle n cap...

Could be head gasket hopefully not as mine was that after precious owner failed to mention it was losing water

where from?

I've seen the expansion tank crack where the two halves of it meet, can be tested by filling the bottle slightly more than usual. Good luck!

Well I'm doing a pigs ear job of finding mine up until now, as I've just found the leak proper myself

(only after I got the wheel off as I suspsected it was further back where I saw a drip)

Waste of time getting the wheel off, the "phantom" drip was probably just rainwater or something.....riding down the wheel arch down the underbody

The source of the "red" colour leak is now apparent.....its just behind the front number plate where the sump guard meets up the rest of the plastics

So its around the radiator. Definitely not head gasket ! I guess thats kind of a result as the worst case scenario is a rad

bottle and cap today for £30 odd quid from tps seems to have solved my problem!

There's someone breaking a Fabia Vrs in the for sale section that has had a new rad on it

Ckeck your radiator, mine loose's about 300 ml every 3/4 weeks, found a little leak in the middle of the radiator

Cheers for spotting that Sharppy, although its not a genuine Skoda one its more of a value one I found out (Eis).

Thats not to say its crap, far from it, but I think if I'm going to change it I might as well use equivalent quality that was on it.

No doubt if I used it would be fine but I did a bit of a google on them and found some varying opinions on the manufacturer. I'd prefer to get something that just bolts in ( quick release connectors ) and works without worry or hassle.

Although s it stands its only dripping losing water when running. I guess could use the temporary solution of K-weld recommended by a few to me, but I'd worry it would just come back - either for me or if I ever sell the car for someone else. Its also more of a "bodgers" solution and I can see it being a detriment elsewhere, in the cooling system efficiency but thats just me.
