Everyday cleaning regime

Featured Replies

Hi All

I am now the proud owner of a 2013 Superb Elegance Estate in Amethyst Purple.

I have seen plenty of posts going into a lot of detail about how to detail your car but I wondered if anyone has any pointers as to what regime they use for their fortnightly regular car clean that doesn't take too long and will keep the car looking great. (Indoor and out)

Any recommendations for products etc would be much appreciated as I would like to keep the new motor looking nice!

Presuming the paintwork is already in good condition, and swirl free, here's my laymen's recommendation on products I like.

First wash:

Snowfoam (Valet Pro PH neutral) and Pressure wash after dwell time.

Wheels (SONAX Full Effect Wheel Cleaner and polish with a good sealant or Sonax BSD)

2BM wash with Lambswool mit.

Pat Dry with MF drying towel (CYC own or Purple monster both work well for me)

Wax (Chemical Guys Petes 53).

Glass (Rain-X)

Plastics (Auto Finesse Revive)

Optional re-coat with SONAX Xtreme Brilliant Shine Detailer.

Every 2 weeks for the next approx. 3 months:

Snowfoam (Valet Pro PH neutral) and Pressure wash after dwell time.

Wheels (a good sealant or Sonax BSD)

2BM wash with Lambswool mit.

Pat Dry with MF drying towel.

Glass (Rain-X)

SONAX Xtreme Brilliant Shine Detailer.

Every approx. 3 months redo step 1.

I tend to use wheel cleaner every wash, but probably could get away with snowfoam and pressure wash.

I also use Ghost rider on glass, but it is expensive and I am unconvinced it's worth it over Rain-X.

That's my method, I am sure the more knowledgable members will point out any flaws   :)

Nothing wrong with that at all...except to do it more times than once a fortnight

Wheels should be cleaned more regularly or Brake dust will begin to bake on

Thanks for the tips - the paintwork is in pretty good condition as the car has only done 4k. It looks like it is beading off each time it rains so I don't know if the garage gave it a good regime or the previous owner looked after it.  Allegedly it is an ex Skoda Milton Keynes management car.

My only challenge now is keeping the rear seats un-dented by the kids car seats!

I'd also recommend alloy cleaning the wheels more often than once a fortnight - the previous owner hadn't ever used the stuff, although I have seen a huge improvement since owning it and using it regularly (every week when I wash the whole car) there still remains some 'stains' that won't shift, and some pitted erosion.
