That's impressive mileage

Just about run in then

Your Octavia gives me hope that the DSG is reliable! lol

Volvo looks lovely. I hear the D5 remaps well to over 200bhp!

A landmark moment!

Hope it keeps clocking up the miles. And enjoy the Volvo :thumb up:

Wow.....403,000 miles. Truly a landmark moment. As Phil says, it's an inspiration to all us DSG owners! Be sure to keep us posted on it's future adventures!

It's going for its NCT (MOT) in the morning, it will be a miracle if it passes. I could do with some collective Briskoda will power!!!

It is only going to be doing 20kms a day from here on out, ironically that'll probably be what finally kills it.

I am loving the 650w Dynaudio sound system and heated/ventilated/message seats in the Volvo. The D5 will be getting mapped over the next couple of weeks, 230bhp and 460nm here I come. It also has a fridge for keeping my milk an Tuna sarny's chilled on my travels

Well the car failed its NCT (MOT) last Sunday. But the good news is that it only failed with a worn ball joint and a dodgy front ARB bush !! Getting sorted and will re-test next week.

The reading on the smoke test I think is amazing for a car with 645,000kms.       0.830/m when the tolerance for my model/year is 2.50/m

The car is still on the original injectors!!!     I might contact Millers about their Diesel Ecomax additive and how good it is.

Not too bad for it's mileage really! I'm sure it will keep on going and going.

Yeah that's pretty good.

Our 1985 Fiat Ducato motorhome passed with a reading of 2.20 with a limit of 2.50. It's got 207,000kms on it but it is an ancient 2.5 litre non-turbo diesel!

If I had of hung on to it for another 12-18 months I reckon I could have reached that mileage but from now on it will only be clocking 20kms a day max!!

It got through it's NCT (MOT) yesterday and has a clean bill of health until Jan 2016.

The odometer reading registered yesterday was 645047kms.

Well done.

How is the volvo comparing to the Octy for you?

It's fantastic, very, very comfortable and has every toy in the book. It likes a drop of diesel!!!

Volvos and saabs are renowned for their seat comfort and the sweds certainly know how to do good seats.

They are extremely comfortable but offer zero lateral support when cornering to the extent that they are changing the way I drive (probably a good thing)

Yep an S80 doesn't corner particularly vigorously, hence the seat design :D

The car actually holds on fairly well for its size and weight, I just have to hold on to the wheel a lot harder to keep upright in the seat!!!!

I also waved my Octavia off 2 weeks ago (as you may know younger06) with what now seems like an inconsequential 196K on it (it was becoming a SERIOUS money pit) and have invested in a V70 that has some of those Inscription ventilated seats and premium audio and that fancy adaptive cruise. WHAT a difference. My driving style has changed too (also for the better) because I plumped for the DRIVe 1.6D version which has resulted in a drop of around 85BHp and several hundred torques...but that doesn't matter when I see the fuel range on the dash go to over 1000 miles   and it instantly took £300 off my insurance!

I will always be an ambassador for Skoda as the two I have had have served me really well (Mum still rattling around in the Fabia VRs) but I think it will be Volvo from herein for me, purely for the level of comfort!

The S80 is the last of the Volvo designed chassis. From then on they are all Fords, the latest generation V70 is basically a Mondeo.......where have we seen this before  :notme:

Well, if I end up spending (wasting) the best part of EIGHT THOUSAND POUNDS in less than 11 months on my Volvo too then I'll happily concede that I could have done something more sensible with my money...

I was looking for a Mondeo when I found the V70 and wasn't aware they shared a common base and after test driving both you wouldn't know they were the same underpinnings to be honest but haters are gonna hate regardless. I like it and that's enough for me...but please, do carry on.

:wait: No hating here. Just saying how it is. Personally I really like Volvo as a car maker and find it a shame that they ended up in the hands of Ford.

At least Ford have been more successful with Volvo than GM were with Saab......

Yes but so did Jaguar and to be honest they did OK from being sold on (although only once Ford realised they couldn't make it work)

Not all of the new models are Ford bases. The new XC90 is their own doing and there are more coming that they've done in-house now that they're part of the great communist state of Geely. There was some rumbling the other day I saw on another forum about them switching to new engines pretty soon (if not already) but I was in the middle of searching for DAB radio things and decided it would be worth a revisit when I wasn't so busy.

Although a quick Google did bring up this:

Also, and I realise what I'm about to say here, but what's wrong with being owned by Ford? If they had enough presence to keep their identity whilst being owned by a huge company and could pick and choose the bits that work for them (chassis, some engine/running gear combos etc) to keep them going through the worst times. When the markets picked up again, they had fared better than if they were on their own. Now they can get on with making their own vehicles again whilst only having to worry about a few years' worth of cars that they might not have been quite as happy with as they would like but it's kept them in business.

Also, and I realise what I'm about to say here, but what's wrong with being owned by Ford?
