How much did the scrap yard charge you meaty

£10. Can't complain at that! Its not perfect though its got a little fag burn on the drivers side and the previous owner has had a dog in the car so its a bit wiffy but a good hoover and Vax will fix that. One thing though, the front part has two round fixings for the car mats but there isn't any in the back. Does anyone know if these can be bought seperate or is it another trip to the scrap yard? And the best place for mk4 golf mats?

After reading this thread, and having just fitted my S3 seats, I have emailed a seller breaking a mk4 golf on eBay and I am picking up a good condition black carpet in the morning for only £15

I paid £35 :(

Pull out your existing mat clips from the rear and fit them on your new carpet.

No I want rid of those twist lock things. They keep twisting back and the kids push the mats up with their feet. I would like to use the mk4 golf fittings if I can.

Yeah but I had to remove the carpet myself on a rainy muddy day in a scrap yard with bits of broken glass stuck in my fingers!

Mine seems cheap when you mention it that way lol.

Reminds me of the time i wanted a clutch cable off a primera at the breakers yard. It was on top of a serena so i was stood on the glass in the door of the serena so i could reach under the dash. The serenas glass gave out and i went crashing to the ground lol

I just went through eBay and ordered it by distance and emailed about 12 different sellers. The prices ranged from £15-£70!

Oh dear! You were lucky there buddy you could have landed on anything. I've developed a very odd habit of looking in glove boxes of old scrapped cars. I've found some great CD's in the past. One mans rubbish eh!!

OK quick update on the issue of mk4 golf carpets. I've just ordered front/rear mk4 mats off the bay genuine vag. TPS wanted £70 if he could've got them as it seems vw no longer make them. Not surprising at that price! Anyway, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, the carpet I got from the scrap yard came with the round fixing clips in the front but non in the back and as the genuine vw mats have the holes in the rear ones I needed some fixing clips. These can be ordered and come in two parts. Its like a large washer with a ridged nipple on the bottom then the top part with the round fixing point pushes and clips onto that. While the carpet is out this is the time to do it. So just in case someone else wants to do this the part numbers are

Bottom part : 3B0864227

Top part. : 3D0864229

Well, got started with a carpet swap at last. Any excuse to get some sun!

Black or white? Mmm!! Right colour now IMHO. White carpets in a family car should not be allowed!

New mk4 mats too. The sun was really bright so the camera wasnt playing. But its a lot better in there now.

Much better :)

Doing mine next week how long did it take you?

Someone mentioned the other day they done it in two hours but tbh it took me that to strip the interior out. About the same again to put it back in but I was taking it easy so nothing got broken or lost. It took me a while to get the centre console out then realised it pulls backwards so had to take the handbrake lever off. But it was straight forward enough anyone thinking about doing it definitely do it. The carpet goes under the dash a little bit, where the climate unit is but there's a metal bracket bolts on next to it then disappears through into the dashboard. The carpet won't come out with that bracket fixed on but so I just cut the carpet through the middle as it looked a bit arkward getting the bracket off. You can't see it though it sits behind the centre console.

Took me 2 hours start to finish. Thats after only 1.5 hours sleep after a night shift too lol.

Its kind of weird that buddy sometimes I work a lot faster with less sleep! Maybe the body adjusts to working funny hours!!

Two hours is good going though!!

Ebay: 171174143490. Just ensure you ask for the faux leather one and not cloth!!

This is the one I bought, did you have any problems fitting, on mine the cig lighter interferes with the main bracket that bolts near handbrake and the armrest does not fit without chopping the centre console and rear ashtray to bits, back in the box at the moment don't fancy a hole where the cig lighter sits and butchering the console to bits, do you have any pics on how yours sits?
