Broken oil pressure switch wire

Featured Replies

I've managed to snap one of the wires that goes to the oil pressure switch plug, now the oil pressure light is continuously flashing on the dash.

Will that likely cause any problems with the oil pressure? It's broken right by the plug so I haven't got hardly any tail to attach a crimp connector, so although it's not ideal can I still drive my car?

Pretty sure the switch just works on pressure. No pressure, light on dash. Pressure light goes out.

Simple as that, shouldn't have any knock on effect down the line...

This is as far as I know, see if anyone els knows better!

Thank you. Their seems to be pressure, when I take the oil filler cap off it blows air out the top. The thing that concerns me is if I hold the revs at about 1500rpm the pressure light comes on and the revs fluctuate about a 100rpm.

I've taken the plug off but I have virtually nothing to join too unless I try to dissect the plug.

That's noting to do with oil pressure. That's just crankcase pressure. The wire being broken off the pressure switch won't affect the oil pressure at all.

Thanks guys it'll have to do until I can source another plug.

I don't suppose anyone knows if you can buy a new plug with a tail included? Or would it be a second hand one only?

New plugs can be purchased but will be blank, no wires included.

Pretty sure they are the same 2 pin half round plug that fits a lot of stuff across the vag range. There should be no problem getting one from a breakers yard. Hell one from a fog light will probably fit it!

What confuses me about this thread is that the OP says he broke one of the wires going to the oil pressure switch plug. There is only one, isn't there?

This page suggests that the pressure switch for any 2004 Fabia is a 1-pin device (one of the top 4 items on that page).  :wonder:

I wonder if he actually means the low oil level sensor?
