3 aircon condensers in 3 years ... ? why ?

Featured Replies

this octavia has needed 3 condensers in 3 years.. what could be causing thier short life span ?

No leaks in the system .. cant immagine its blocked

must be the belt ?

Stone damage, usually. The bottom vents on the MKII are wide open and allow good sized stones to hit the condenser straight on. After I replaced the one on mine, I fixed some black wire mesh behind the vents to catch any more stones.

perfect. will look. but its got no leaks so just been looking it up and poss the compressor.. think i meant compressor not heat exchange unit

If the compressors keep failing, then I believe there could be broken fragments of the first one going around the system. I thought I read around here that you need to get the system flushed and at least a new drier fitted along with the compressor to make sure no shrapnel would be left inside that could damage the new one.

I would search on here to be sure first, I only had to replace the condenser on mine, so haven't had to go through this.

There is valve the sticks in the compressor, Happened to mine ,New valve from Poland £55, fitted in half an hour . The old one was stuck between open and closed , about 1/2 inch shorter than the new one.

I had 2 on my old '07 Octavia Estate - first went at about 50k, then the next at around 80k.

bloody skoda want £122.50 to flush the feckin system

Not bad if you offset that against the cost of compressor no.3...

The dealer will have the right flushing blocks to do the job correctly. If the £122.50 is recover, flush, vacuum and refill, then it's a very good price.
