New L&K 4x4 Estate DSG problems

Featured Replies

Has anybody else had problem with 6sp DSG 4x4, car 6 weeks old and cover 4600 miles. went into neutral in outside lane of M42, on coasting on to hard shoulder the box jammed into unknown gear.

after 90min wait for recovery the gearbox appeared to be working again. Car now with dealer awaiting Skoda technical advice. So far unable to find codes etc.

If the car if driven for a short distance it goes into neutral and then jumps in and out 4th gear, its now been off road since last Friday.

Does anybody know or had similar problem?

Hi not got the 4x4 but do have L&k 170 DSG 2500 miles. No issues with the very smooth and responsive DSG. Back to the dealer then :0(

WHAT!!!!!!!!?  :o  :o  :o

Worst nightmare scenario there imo.

You are one very very very  lucky lucky lucky bunny.

What would and could have happened if you hadn't been able to drift over onto the hard shoulder REALLY doesn't bare thinking about

Fling it back at the dealer. Not fit for purpose, and I'm sorry, but VAG should bin this lousy box now and fit a standard auto box in.

Just my opinion of course, but I wouldn't want a DSG even if the car was three thousand pound cheaper after reading all these truly dreadful horror stories.

Don't flame me, but standard auto boxes go wrong too.

Slightly hysterical response there I think.

The failure rate is actually very low.....especially on the 6 speed DSG.

VAG have been producing them for 11 years now. There are literally millions of them in use all over the world, and it's been this successful because it's not a standard slush box. I don't think there is any chance of VAG dropping it.

There is a member on here who has a Mk2 Octavia 6 speed DSG that has covered just over 400,000 miles..........original gearbox with no failures.

I can assure you that I'm NOT hysterical as you so 'quaintly' put it, but thanks anyway.

Where it concerns the dsg box i think you are. Have you ever had one?

Merely stating an OPINION....... (MINE...IF that's ok with you btw...please, or do I have to pm you  and you're friend  first p'raps in future)?)  based on horror stories like THIS particular one, i.e. car' slipping into neutral whilst in the outside lane of a busy motorway.

I think I'd have been bordering on hystria and blind panic if I'd had to endure what Gasser had to, especially if the inner two lanes had been rammed with fast moving traffic.

Thank God this wasn't the case, and he managed to get over onto the hard shoulder.

Totally unacceptable scenario IN MY OPINION.

Obviously or at least seemingly you think this....granted... possibly/hopefully  rare and one off problem is quite normal and acceptable then?

Well I tell you, IF it had happened to me, I'd never want to go near a car with DSG ever again.

This happening once is once too often.

Call that hysteria if you want. I really do not care

No, I haven't driven a car with DSG, and I dare say they're LOVELY when operating as they should, so don't quite see what you're having a bitch and stab at me for tbqh.

Still, you're entitled to your opinion, so DO carry on hurling personal abuse if that's what makes your day.

Similar problem  /experience  to owners of the Fabia vRS MK2 and other then.

Checkout the " Fabia recall" thread.

Your failure needs to be official recorded in writing to Skoda UK via their website or via letter to Customer Service to raise a Case History

IF YOU ALSO SUFFER THE "BROWN TROUSER" MOMENT, then you might just change your few!

Indeed.

I was genuinely horrified when I read Gassers horrendous tale.

I'd have been absolutely cacking myself and could actually remotely feel the instant anguish he must have experienced.

CALL THAT HYSTERIA then if you wish.

Don't give a stuff.

I appreciate you can have p'raps a blow out or some other systems failure that could create a similar problem, but with all these tales of DSG box problems, it makes me simply wonder if this could be waiting to happen to someone else, who may not be as fortunate as our Bristonian friend was on this occasion.

...........Okaaaaaaaaaay.

I drove the dsg demo and wasn't impressed, I've opted for the manual. These boxes are just a fault liability. Id reject the car as unfit for purpose /sale and hand it back to dealers

Very happy DSG user, no probs at all.

Another one to add to the tens of thousands!

You'd think there was flames coming from the dsg and the car was about to implode, ott yikes and crikey.

Its only a matter of time till all dsg boxes spontaneously combust dont you know!

You hear as many failures/problems with manual boxes as you do with the 6 speed DSG.

It sounds likes it's just thrown a hissy fit. Usually due to a dodgy sensor.

Phil

I too was worried before buying my car when I heard all the horror stories about the DSG. I am sure I would be unhappy if mine failed but at the moment it is working wonderfully well and I am now a convert away from manuals and I think it would be hard to go back.

Note!Gasser,Has had a new DSG FITTED( Skoda/dealership could not sort malfunction) just over a week ago, as no doubt he will report back.He has another complimentary thread that ran after this one.

Outlining progress, think he was doing a250 mile trip this week, first time out with the new box fitted.

It's hardly helpful stating your box is running fine ! What is the point?

To show that not ALL DSG boxes are causing issues - that's the point - Forums generally only report the bad news.

Exactly my point in the past, forums are a natural place to post when you have an issue, which is why people thing all DSG gearboxes are rubbish, and always have faults... Forums will rarely say the good stuff about the 1000's out there that never have issues and are 100% reliable... This applies to any issue I suppose :)
