Grille Guard

Featured Replies

Has anyone found or fitted a grille guard to the front lower grilles?  I don't like that there is a clear line of sight from the grille to what looks like either an air con condensor, or radiator.

Particularly don't want stones finding their way in there.  Unfortunately mine looks like it already has a dent in it, from its previous owner's endeavours.

Something like Zunsport would be good - but they don't make them for the Superb yet.

I've done mine on my Vrs

Got some fine wire mesh from B&Q, removed the lower grill, cut it to shape and  wire tied it to the inside face and refitted

Works a dream

Thanks Auric.

Ok, so how do I remove the lower grille? Am thinking of making my own to go on the outside.

Stage 1 complete...

Just waiting for some flexi-rubber to arrive to form a frame surround. Will mount to the outside of the lower grille with some very thin cable ties (also on order).

Flexi-rubber arrived, so I shaped the mesh and fixed the frame edging in place.

Can anyone think of a completely invisible install? At the moment my plan is to fix with a cable tie in the middle, and one at each side. Both sides would be secured by removing the parts of the grille that gain you access to the fogs and DRLs, down-drilling through one of the horizontal slats - then one cable tie would loop through these new holes to secure the mesh in place.

glue three neodymium magnets to the car side of the grill opening.

Are you offering paper templates of the shape to cut?

is the mesh galvanised or alloy (not going to rust)

It's black powder-coated aluminium, so it won't rust, and isn't magnetic.

Since the pics above, I have added more rubber edging along the top, as the exposed metal was starting the scratch the paint along the top edge of the lower grille with all of the in-out placement to get the correct 3D shape.

Hope you all don't mind me posting my work-in-progress.

At the end of it all I will write-up as a DIY guide with parts and costs.  A downloadable template might be a bit beyond my means, and them means of most printers: the width is c.105cm.
