Check for potential warranty issue?

Featured Replies

Quick question - we had some warranty work done (droplink replaced) during our octavia's first service. I'd noticed a bit of a noise and asked them to check it at the same time and turned out there was an issue (didn't seem to do the alignment afterwards but that's another story).

Anyway, warranty is up soon I think and I noticed another noise related to the aircon (whining changing pitch with revs, only with AC on) so I want to get or checked out - what's the deal with getting this checked separately from a service, do dealers charge for time/diag and scratch it if covered, or check for free and then charge if it's something not covered? Hope that makes sense!

Dealer has been generally good service wise so far but wanted to see what the usual situation is. Other than the drop link we has a clutch go after a few weeks - dumped it on the forecourt and was sorted within days, but don't know if this is an actual issue (have read some stuff about VAG AC issues and don't want an expensive repair in a few months).

Called dealer, appointment for next week to check. Under warranty until mid June so no diag charge. Hopefully all clear or will be covered.

Best get an Extended Warranty arranged for after that one expires,

but take care to Read all the T&C's, Exclusions etc. if you can get your hands on the Policy Guide before buying anything.

'Skoda Approved Extended Warranty' by Car Care Plan maybe,

or look at buying the same Extended Warranty direct from them.

Cheers, was wondering about that actually. No doubt they'll pitch it while I'm in and can find out a bit more.

When I have taken things to them I have thought might be done under my extended warranty, they have said they charge for the diag time if they can't find a fault covered under warrantly. If its repaired by the warranty then there is no cost for the diagnosis time, its covered by the warranty cover.

If that makes sense! :)

seaweasel,

Actually, it is surprising since the Commission on selling the Extended Warranty is good, but many Dealerships or staff

make it difficult to find out much about it.

If they are not helpful or not quick to get the information,

you can go through Skoda UK Customer Services and get the info and purchase the Warranty.

PS,

further to what is said in post #5,

there are clauses that say you have to pay for dismantling to have an inspection or report done

to make a claim.

Thats why reading a Policy Booklet for an Extended Warranty is Important before buying Cover.

Its not cheap though - last year mine was £449, this year £499. Although its does come with european breakdown cover worth about £250 which you never know when you might need!

I paid £547 for 2 years cover,

1 year would have been £399.

But then the Engines in the type of car have been costing Skoda £4000 plus a time and out of 2,800 UK cars

& they have replaced dozens up to now, and sometimes replaced the replacement.

Yes I don't blame you extending the warranty at all goneoffSKi for a Fabia RS. I extended mine mainly because the running gear doesn't seem great, already had a shock, wheel bearing, linkage and suspension bushes done.

I know of a wiring loom fault in my drivers door - which isn't covered unfortunately.

The reversing sensors have given up on mine - although its not the sensors, seems like the whole unit as it is does nothing going into reverse. The person at the warranty help desk said it would probably be covered. So it can be looked at next time its at the dealer!

Oof! Hopefully the older MPI we have will work out a little cheaper, haven't heard about too many issues with it. Will see what they say.

Left the car in on Thu afternoon - seemingly the condenser needs replaced (covered by warranty), will be going back in during the week to get replaced, and AC recharge is included.

Was only in and out so idn't get round to asking about extending the warranty, will maybe see this week.
