Speed camera overlay for TomTom 5?

Featured Replies

Now that TomTom 5 is finally on sale for new customers rather than just an upgrade I've got mine ordered through work.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some straightforward instructions on how to get the speed camera database installed and working?

Thanks

www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk has full instructions and a sound file fix you can apply to get the correct warnings.

Manny, I don't think that applies for TT5 though. The "old" ones I have always used worked with TT2 and TT3, but I don't thkni they work with TT5, although I haven't tried them yet.

Edit: sorry, CheckPOInt have released a version which works with TT5, so I guess between the CheckPOInt software and the "old" database, it should be working hunky dory

I have the pocketgpsworld database loaded in TT5 without trouble, thanks for mentioning the checkpoint update though as I prefer using this for POI info.

Checkpoint kept crashing my Axim, the GPSWorld Overlays work champion on TT5

The pocketgpsworld camera database definately works with TT5. I have it on my Ipaq 6340. It is excellent and, unlike Tom Tom's own offering totally free.

I also use a bit of software called PoiEdit (also from same site) that automatically updates this database everytime I dock the Ipaq.

Guys

1) the overlay format has NOT changed for TT5 - they still work

2) Checkpoint has been released now for TT5

3) But you probably dont need it since TT5 has its own POI warnings in, which is actually pretty niceley implemented. WIth clear warning of distance to POI and a good sized icon. Quite elegant, and to me the fact its built in, and you dont need to start checkpoint first etc makes it the preferred solution.
