Thanks :)

OR You can fit 215/40/16

or 205/50/16

But the best tyre size needed for 16" alloys is 205/45/16 :P

why are they better than 195x45x16 tryres

or

205x50x16 - will they fit pd100???

This is the correct tyre size for Fabia :rolleyes: 185/60/14; 185/55/15; 195/50/15; 205/45/16; 205/40/17

215/40/16 whats the differnce? apart from the 40 being the hight? and 16 being the size of the wheel?

just make sure the diameter is the same as the wheels ur replacing or speedo will be up the creek. So adjust tyre depth accordingly.

I'm running 205/45/16 on mine

Is the first dimension, for example 195 the width of the cobntact patch with road?

Would either of these wheels fit my fabia tdipd100 on ebay here and here

John

The first number is the width if the tyre, so you need to make sure that's suitable for the width of the wheel. The first link won't fit as they're only 4 stud ;) The second I believe will, but I can't remember what the standard Fabia wheel offset is - ET38 sounds about right.....

Chris

Chris , thanks for the info so I guess 205 would be better for roadholding than 195. Rim width 6.5j is that ok

Did you manage to have a look at the links.

so if the radius is too small then the speedo will be out by a slower speed? and opposit to a bigger rim meaning higher inaccurat speeds?

Hi,

So now that I have 16" wheels rather than the standard pd100 does theat mean my sppedo will be faster or slower?

John

You need the same overall rolling radius (or very close) to maintain the same speedo readings. If the radius is bigger, one revolution will happen slower so the speedo will underread I think. Making the radius smaller will mean revolutions can happen quicker so the speedo will overread... Think I have that the right way round :D

Normally when you increase the size of the alloy, you reduce the profile of the tyre to maintain the same overall radius....

i thouhgt bigger wheel- higher false speed?- but then the overal top end of speeds will increase because of the bigger surface to pull the car forward

I run 215/40/17" on my Furbie vRS and the speedo is spot on with my Road Angel

i thouhgt bigger wheel- higher false speed?- but then the overal top end of speeds will increase because of the bigger surface to pull the car forward

That's nothing to do with the speedo readings :D Bigger tyres will have more drag which will reduce acceleration, but their added weight may increase overall momentum and increase top-speed, although this will probably be a pretty small increase....

Chris

  • 2 weeks later...

bigger =speedo under reading

smaller=speedo over reading

:)

with bigger overall diameter then the wheel is traveling further per revolution therefore you are covering a longer distance per revolution thus traveling faster :D

but acceleration will be slower due to greater transmission loses(effectivly) and the wheels having less leverage over the wheels :confused:

I've fitted 215/40/16's as they were
