Power loss mystery..

Featured Replies

I know this will be a stab in the dark as I don't have much info about it, but hopefully you knowledgeable lot will be able to help.

Doing a short journey the last week (2-3 miles) and the car suddenly lost some power. Only for like a few seconds, then came back. Thought it was me at first. Then a minute or so later, same again. No beeps or warning lights. I wondered if it had gone into limp mode, but I wasn't going past 2k revs as the car was still cold, then power came back.

Been fine since, went on a 60+ mile rround trip last weekend and all was fine. The Mrs has gone to work this morning and same has happened, so she's panicked and slammed the breaks on and someone's hit the back of her (no damage apparently as she says, I'll see when I get home!). I know it could do with a scan and I've messaged a chap off here who lives near me who scanned it last year for me, but not sure if he's on here anymore (btw, can someone post the link to the thread with the members with vagcom pretty please :).)

Any ideas??

I'm going to Manchester tomorrow so don't want it happening on the m6!

Couple of other things which may be completely unrelated but I'll mention in case, I need a new cam sensor as that's came up on the past couple scans and it's in the to do list. Car sometimes struggles to start when it's warm, which is down to this I believe?

Also, on the trip the weekend, the battery light kept flashing on and off, only for a couple of mins. Forum search seems to suggest the common Alternator wire on the way out. Might these have anything to do with it?

Thanks

Could be sticky Turbo vains.

Mine started that way, then got progressively worse to the point of having to pull over turn the car off and then restart it.

Prior to that, depressing the clutch and revving, or turning the car off and on again seemed to work.

The Mr Muscle turbo clean did the job for me, no issues since :)

Fair enough mate. Does the eml come up when it goes into limp mode??

  • 2 months later...

hello

I have a 2005 fabia 1.9tdi which has had a loss of power whilst driving. Depressing the clutch and blipping the accelerator clears the problem. I also need to turn the engine over twice, sometimes, to start after it has been running, no problem in morning.

This fault occurs every 500-1000 miles.

Diagnostic shows camshaft sensor recorded fault.

Is this the sensor or a fault detected by the sensor.

Yeah I have the cam sensor problem too, struggles to start when warm sometimes. Need a new sensor.
