'Viva la Vauxhall'.

Featured Replies

I had 2 vivas, just looked on Ebay for a project, bit too pricey for a project though

Any teenager worth his salt drove a Ford Anglia, not a Vauxhall. I had two and took great pleasure utilising the large Ford interchangeable parts bin.

Sadly the Anglias rusted in much the same way as the Vivas.

An elderly aunt had a HA circa 1965. A good slap on any panel resulted in a shower of rust on the floor. It fell apart in short order.

Was me first car the Viva. Just like this one.

Got written off on a roundabout by a greenline coach. A large pile of filler was on the floor where it was hit lol.

There was a fatality during the accident.

The goldfish the bird in the back won at the fair ended up on the floor and did'nt make it.

Car was a complete dog.

I bought one (new - £1007) that was virtually that colour (that's a late one so will be Honey Starfire, mine was earlier so was Honey Starmist - slightly darker).  Build quality was not great, fuel economy was not great and it didn't have a radio.  To describe it as a dog is to insult canines!

The new one is just a replacement for the Matiz, but with less character.

I clearly recall my brother owning 3 of the original vivas back in the 80s. Even then i didn't think much of them.

it'd be pretty cool if they came out with a cooking version of the new model called a Magnum, just like the original!

This statement made me laugh -  Under the bonnet, a small 89bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine is likely to feature, meaning fuel economy of around 70mpg should be possible. -  OH YEAH ! REALLY can they tell us how to actually get anywhere near that in the real world.

Meh souless box.

I understand the business driver though. Also agree it'll probably get nearer to 35mpg in a town maybe 45 out and about as you thrash that clockwork motor to death to get anywhere.

It'll probably weight about 2 tons with all the safety gear and ipod chargers.

I can remember being in my Grandad's Viva in ~1980. It was an unfortunate turd brown as well.

How about a Magnum?:

or a Firenza?:

Hopefully when Top Gear run out of Marina's they'll turn on the remaining Viva's...

Particularly if it's chocolate coated and has a wooden stick coming out the back.

The ultimate Viva Jerry Marshal and baby bertha , see if you can spot the Skoda in the track action !

It's all rather relative this.

All well and good slating off these old cars, but by today's standards, they were ALL crap in reality.

Just driven Moggsy to Manchester on the M56 with zero safety features and ball and chain steering.

Antiquated yes, but  an absolute AWESOME hoot, and if it breaks down, I can probably fix it at the roadside too.
