After post 17 it surprises me you are still talking about buying this car. It also surprises me the dealer has not experienced the problem which is more of a concern for after sales support.

Totally agree with 137699. As I also said in my earlier post every diesel car I've had, and I've had lots, has some level of engine vibration through the pedals. This is not judder, or a mechanical fault, it is engine vibration being transferred through the mechanical components.

I'll say it again.

 

The brand new one I tested had vibration on the clutch pedal - exactly as you describe. It too was a CR 140.

 

I'd say is a characteristic of the car and one which many owners have not noticed or are immune to.

 

I have to apologise and I stand corrected. I went out today and tried to 'feel' the vibration on the clutch pedal that you are referring to and yes I can detect it - just! There is a tiny amount of vibration on the clutch pedal - barely noticable but it is there.

 

Now I have found it, I am sure that it will bug me - no not really :D

 

However, it could not be described as 'a lot' of vibration, so I do think the cars in question must have a problem that should not be there.

I think this is the crux.  A Yeti is not a Rolls Royce and the engine - especially a diesel - will almost always be detectable within the cabin in some way or another, more so to those attuned or sensitized to such things.  (I recall a diesel Octavia I had on loan once while my Yeti was being serviced.  The service manager said, "The keys are in the car".  What I didn't realise when I sat in it was that the engine was running - it was so much quieter than the Yeti at idle.  As soon as I started driving, though, what a racket compared to the Yeti!)

 

Perhaps it comes down to what the OP meant by "a fair amount" of engine vibration.  Yes, someone with more sensitive feet then me might be able to detect some engine vibration through the clutch pedal but I personally wouldn't describe it as anything like "a fair amount" - more "barely discernible".  That's why I suggested that "a fair amount" of vibration through the pedal was not normal.

I did a short experiment this weekend, which involved feeling the clutch pedal with my fingertips while driving, and while stationery.  On the basis of that, I'd say there's more engine vibration comes through the steering wheel than through the clutch pedal on my CR 140.  Make of that what you will...

I did a short experiment this weekend, which involved feeling the clutch pedal with my fingertips while driving, and while stationery.  On the basis of that, I'd say there's more engine vibration coming through the steering wheel than through the clutch pedal on my CR 140.  The vibration at the wheel was minimal, but once I was looking for it, it was certainly there.  Up until yesterday I wouldn't have been able to say whether or not there was any vibration at the wheel, but now I know that there is a very slight amount - and also that any vibration through the clutch pedal is less than that.  I don't recall anyone ever mentioning steering wheel vibration as a negative or even just a noticeable feature of the Yeti, so I reckon it's barely detectable.  On that basis, I'm even more convinced that "a fair amount" of vibration at the clutch pedal is not normal.

 Just to give you all an update.

 

 I have walked away from this particular car, however the good news is the same dealer has had another Yeti come in.

 

  I have driven it and it is totally vibration free from what I was experiencing in the other car.

 

 The wife and I both described this vibration as a pulse through the pedal and although the sales guy did acknowledge that the vibration/pulsing was there the dealer mechanics say the car is perfectly fine and that particular vehicle didn't have a DMF fitted.

 

  So I have done a deal including the fitment and coding of a removable 13pin tow bar.

 

 The Yeti I have bought is a 140se, 2013 example.

 

 It doesn't have the off road button but I think I can live without it in the snow.

Changed from a 1.4 petrol golf to the 140 Yeti. No notable difference in vibration through the controls. The 140 is 'rougher' on the move but not bad for a diesel compared to some others I've driven.
