ABS/traction - rear wheel speed sensor faulty - advice please

Featured Replies

hi

ABS and traction control lights came on just after driving through a big puddle in heavy rain.  i went through it slowly but im thinking this is the reason why they came on.  i drove another 20 or so miles, left it overnight but they still come on.

my mate has a diagnosis pc and connected it all, cleared the fault but it came back on after driving a short distance, so i expect there is actually a real fault.

it says that the rear left wheel speed sensor is faulty, mechanical fault, intermittent, with code 209.

does this mean anything to anyone?  is this something i can sort myself or does the car need to go in?  car is 57 L&k 2.0 diesel.

thanks a lot

its the rear inner hub with the abs speed sensor ring built onto it had the same problem a month or so ago. i got a new one off ebay for £30 and it took 20 minutes to do. there is quite a few threads about it.

ok thanks, dont spose you got a linky to the sort of thing i need please?  btw, the fault code was 290 not 209 if that makes any difference.

thanks a lot

Mine was the same, It was the ABS rear off side sensor, New sensor off Ebay is less than £20...

i cant find anything for that price, all the ones i see are in the £40s for my car.  would anyone care to send me a link please?

thanks :-)

I've done both rear hubs for the same reason in the last 6 month. Wish mine were £40. £120 a side for vag parts.

yeah confusing isnt it.  dont spose anyone can point me in the right direction as to the correct sensor id need please?

thanks

Go to a dealer and get the VAG one don't muck around. I got one from ECP and it packed in after 6 months. Wasn't even that much cheaper.

ill have a look at dealer prices thanks.  in the meantime ive been onto euro car parts and spoken online to ask which id need.  trouble is, they took details from my reg which lists car as 1.9 ambiente.  its a 2.0 L&K.  had this a few times, usually insurance time.

there were a few options which i asked about and they told me which part (taken from reg details).  i explained the difference in reg and fact, and they said id need to get engine code from dealer.  they told me my part was related to engine code BXD, but other variants were BKC and BJB for that engine.

just had a look at the label in my boot, and engine code is given as BKD.  should that narrow it down now?

thanks (will ring main dealer too now)
