Retrofitting Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Can it be done?

Is it simply a case of replacing the indicator stalk with the CC version and programming via VCDS, or is there more to it?

Cheers

According to ROSSTEC wiki i have a midline controller, so I assume i wont need to change anything other than the stalk then have it coded via VCDS?

Depending on the year of your car, you may need both stalks - which come as a combined unit - rather than a replacement indicator stalk with cruise. My 2011 MY Octavia II needed the combined unit.

And I think some extra wiring is needed on older cars (pre 2007 or thereabouts)...

Cheers guys, ive got a 2007 pre facelift PD170 so think i have separate stalks... I had wondered about this extra wire as Id seen an article on retrofitting cruise a while ago and it mentioned this wire.. also a mate had to do it on his PD170 passat... I was hoping not to have to do the extra wiring etc so if it isnt a straight swap and code I dont think ill bother.. Its only a nice thing to have, not essential..

I think you are ok with a 2007. Ask kbphoto, I believe he added to his 2007 without the wire...

I dont think fitting the extra wire will be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, taking off your airbag, removing your steering wheel and the all the column plastics will prob be more of a headache than a little bit of wiring.

Yours won't need the wiring.

My 2007 BKD engine non-Vrs took a CC stalk on a BC controller with no issues and no extra wires.

As did my MY07 4x4.

Cheers for the info guys, Looks like I may go ahead and do this then... how much of a pain was it removing the steering wheel/airbag/plastics etc as someone has mentioned on here? I assume after that I only need worry about coding with VCDS?

Does anyone have a part number for the stalk? and also where the coding needs to be done? I assume central convenience unit?

It takes me about an hour and a half to fit. Its quite straightforward though the steering controller can be a pain to release. IIRC to release it you need to push the clip to the left.

I'll go and have a look for the part no.

The stalk I got is:

1K0 953 513 G 9B9

That was from TPS last year.

Oh and you need to recode the steering controller and do an adaption on the engine controller to get it to work.

You also need to drive the car in a straight line to get rid of the steering and esp (if fitted) warning lights afterwards. So don't panic.

Thanks for all the info, ill get looking for the part now and once i have that ill go looking for what I need to do with VCDS to code the thing.. fingers crossed I wont get any warning lights but if i do at least i dont need to panic now.. thanks again... much appreciated

Do you know the part number for your steering controller?

Heres what I have from an old VCDS scan

Address 16: Steering wheel        Labels: 1K0-953-549-MY8.lbl
   Part No SW: 1K0 953 549 BC    HW: 1K0 953 549 BC
   Component: Lenksäulenmodul 035 0070
   Coding: 0000012

IIRC that particular steering controller does cruise only with specific software versions. I think 035 and 036 (on the component line) are OK. Google the part number and cruise to confirm.

looking at buying a 2011 octavia S 1.6 TDI CR

will it be a case of stalk only or a big job ?

Depends on what steering controller is fitted. Also I think on the later cars both stalks are a single unit so have be replaced together. So probably more expensive than older cars.

I think I answered this in another post you made

Stalk set although some cars will require a different module

How do you know if the wire is required that comes in the box ?

It's only on early 2005 cars from my experience.
