What to Do When It Goes Limp............ home mode

Featured Replies

My Ford Focus CO2 emissions went down at every MOT.

As I do a low mileage since finishing work, I use Premium

diesel especially when I tow the caravan and I push it hard

through the gears on short solo runs.

But what should I do if it goes into limp home mode when I

am towing? Any advice appreciated.

Why would your Focus go into limp home mode when towing unless there is a problem. might be better asking in the General car chat section though.

Only one thing you can do, call Skoda Assist.

I'm trying hard to work out why the Focus has been mentioned.

If, repeat if, the OP is actually talking about his Yeti going limp (*) when towing then I would suggest he stops immediately and calls out Skoda Assist or his recovery company.

Bother, I used to have a Focus but now have a Yeti.

The query was about the Yeti.

Fine.

Now why should your car go into "limp" mode whilst you are towing?

I've towed with my Yeti for 4 years and it has never happened, and I can see no reason why it should unless there is some mechanical defect. In that case I would stop immediately and call out the rescue services.

Ring Jeremy Clarkson's for advise?

Could be all sorts of things - need to get it checked really, either at a dealer, or get someone with VCDS to scan it for you and see what faults have been logged.

Otherwise it's just speculation.

If you stop the engine, and then restart straight away, does it run OK again ?

What is temp gauge showing when it happens ?

When does it happen - just cruising along at steady speed, or under heavy load (eg sustained accelerating up to fast speed with caravan on, or up long hills, etc) ?

On the earlier VAG PD diesels, it was very common for the variable vanes in the turbo to get clogged with soot, so they could adjust properly - resulting in either overboost or underboost issues and limp mode.

I think you are looking for problems that might never occur. :nerd: Just ENJOY the Yeti. B)

Well said Fred

To OP. Call Skoda assist.

I went onto Salisbury plains and went through a small puddle that came over the quite low bonnet of the Yeti. One of the sensors got wet and it went into limp home mode.

Being a DSG you have 1 gear. First. (Nothing else, not even reverse). So I had to drive through mud etc etc to get off the plains. I then rang Skoda assist who came out very quickly, read and cleared the codes and it has or rather was, been fine up to and including the day I sold it.

That was a fun day out wasn't it 900,000
