Fitting new sidemount

Featured Replies

Well cupra r 225bhp so suggests the standard fmic is near its limit in the vrs. You could swap back to the standard ic and see if the problem is still there. Bit more work though.

  • Nick @ RTech said the standard side mount is more than enough for upto 240bhp amd so called aftermarket uprated side mounts can actually be less productive than the oem ones (refering to his audi a3 s

  • That's odd why a bigger ic was fitted to the golf. That'll be with less power than the vrs too. It'll be interesting to see how your car goes with this. You might just have stumbled on a great mod her

The standard ic seems alright on my car until its a hot day like 17c upwards. The heatsoak is terrible even driving steady. I think it runs less than standard power. Im stage 1 mapped

it shouldn't be laggy, as you aren't introducing lots of extra pipework like a lot of generic FMIC kits, but it does need to be of decent construction to flow properly. It shouldn't be loud, my last one wasn't and was def not laggy in the slightest.

Looks twice the thickness of stock smic but wouldn't have thought it would create more lag as you've not increased the distance it has to travel. If it's noisier I'd do a bit more checking as it may be tight at the cooler but may have disturbed something further down the line.

Now got the urge to go fit mine and seen what it's like.

That's my point it will be worse or more laggy if flow is poor regardless of no pipe changes as if will take longer to flow the same volume.

Just because it is bigger don't mean better.

Ive faffed about with the thing again disconnected it all and reconnected it back up. Not really any different. And it seems ive damaged my old one when removing it. So ordered another oem one from ebay.

I think the standard fmic does a good job unless your kicking out big power. Does the cupra r use two fmic's like the s3?

Standard is SMIC, not FMIC

Yes side or front mounted sorry made a typing mishtake!!

Ok so i ordered a new oem intercooler from an AUM engined golf. The part numbers were the same apart from the letter on the end. The golf one arrived today and its bigger. The core is bigger. So golfs seem to come with better parts from factory

Top IC is my original

Only problem is now is i damaged my old IC removing my map sensor and the new one is stuck too, the plugs look the same but the sensor is different. Do we think it will matter?

I still could have flogged you my standard intercooler and MAP sensor! Can you send the AUM back for a refund? Or just spend the money you would have spent going back to standard buying an FMIC instead?

The new one will fit the car just not sure on the map sensor working with the ecu. Only one way to find out

Interesting that the golf one is bigger. Still not got round to doing mine yet. May have ago this weekend weather permitting.

Well the golf AUM fits and connects fine as expected. The map sensor has the same plug and works fine with my car. Drives as normal now no lag etc..

The golf one is also different construction inside to the standard VRS one. Whether its any better remains to be seen.

I imagine since the golf one is OEM it will flow fine and been bigger should cool better.

you can find aftermarket ICs very cheap wich are that big and fat :)

That what he bought originally ^^

Yeah the AUM is only 150bhp but can be mapped to the same as the AUQ. Goes aswell as before but the weather isnt hot, when its a hot day i will know more. The duct that goes from the bumper to the IC wont fit though, the extra size on the cooler wont allow for it. Might have to cut it down abit :(

Yeah I think there is a couple of hot days due in august so let us know!!

Seem to be suffering less heatsoak now. Been +20c round here today & friday its been fine. Might just be because this intercooler isnt full of oil lol but id like to think this cooler is working better
