Maxi dot coding

Featured Replies

Well. i thought it would be too easy.

Took my new dashpod to the local indie, new module (1Z0920942F)  to replace my 1Z0 920 910 B

Vag taco was unable to communicate with the new dashpod to code it.. so he can't code it.

So short of finding someone with Vag-Commander i assume i have to trust the ebay seller that its brand new and take it to the local dealer for instrument replacement?

any ideas? :(

When you turned on the ignition, if the mileage indication was zero then the dashpod is new.

The dealer can do the swap, although they maybe reluctant and claim it cannot be done. All they need do is follow the VAS guided process for swapping an instrument cluster, it does not matter that one is not maxidot and the other one is.

Maybe get in touch with Eddie-NL.

He did my maxidot coding for me and has done about 50+ up to now so may have some ideas.

Interesting, will try it later to check, when we powered it on it just showed the immobilizer enabled display.

Just spoken to the local dealer who seem to be happy to do it.. i had to convince them it was possible and it doesn't need any other modules   £45 isn't as bad as i expected from them.

That's bloody cheap. I think they have under-quoted there unless you will do the physical swap yourself at the dealers and just get them to code it?

+ vat... but even then that's comparable with my local indie..

still would prefer the indie to the dealer out of principle that I've used him for years and had no issues!

Unless they have quoted for 30min. physical swap would be done by them i suspect as i can't drive it with the new cluster in.

The dealer needs the original cluster fitted, since the VAS tool reads the settings and mileage from the old cluster before copying to the new one.

Yup, old cluster has not been removed yet. so won't be a problem :)

This is why I was impressed with Eddie's set-up.

He had a car battery and wiring loom in his boot.

He read everything from the car with the old cluster fitted.

Then plugged the new one into his loom in the boot and copied everything over.

Then just did the swap which avoiding having to do the basic settings on the steering etc.

sadly Eddie is the other end of the country from me though :(

Yeah he was a 8 hour round drive away for me but fortunatelt he was passing by one day and was able to come to me.

and i can see why vag-tacho can't read it:

Superb, Octavia, Fabia II, Roomster, Yeti, Rapid with VDO dash 2009-2011

Octavia with VDO dash 2005 - 6/2006

mine is an 07 vdo dash!

damn.

Ah. I would take the dealer up on their offer then. It's a good price.

Just also checked the dash in the car, its defo not been coded, nothing in the mileage when i connected it up.

ran VCDS settings on it though.. for an 07 cluster i would have thought it would have had the cruise control LED. apparently not!

Another indie (who i swore not to use after i asked them about cambelts and they told me i wouldn't need a cambelt at 4 years as its only done 43k , but also refused to put it in writing) is sure they can do it using autologic for £25 + VAT.

bumpting this, went to dealer today.

maxidot immo cannot be coded on my 2005 Octavia because the immo on the 07 cluster is as the dealer advised an online immobiliser and requires keys/everything else coded on it from a special system within skoda.

so.. i am guessing i just need to sell on the cluster to someone with a newer car and cough up from skodateile.cz for one (but won't that also be a online immo?

anyone else shed any light on this? guessing CAN-Commander can't fix this issue either?

  • Author

interesting, will get in contact to see if i can post it to them for them to pull the skc and if all i then need to do is code it in VCDS.

drama lama.

thanks for that information mike.

online = connection to skoda via VAS to pull the immo code.

will speak to ben to see what he can do to help!

  • Author

dammit. will see what eddie can do for me... but i'm pretty far away if he needs to plug in to the car :(

  • Author

Yeah i asked them to do a cluster swap process, VAS was unable to complete the coding as the immobiliser type in the 07 cluster was a different type.. for a newer immobiliser type. i have a printout showing  the years.

  • Author

Rgr, thanks Mike... i was about to rage post it on ebay.

looks like i will have to post both my clusters to Eddie and hope to god the courier doesn't screw up!

Thanks, that was my first Maxidot that I enabled illuminated needles on.
