Having repaired a broken head gasket on a Fabia 1.4 mpi, I still have oil residue in the cooling system that is causing the coolant to lose opacity and is discolouring the coolant expansion tank.

I've flushed the system and cleaned it with a basic radiator cleaner but that doesn't seem to have shifted the oil deposits and residue from the coolant pipes particularly.

Is there a really good way to clean out the whole coolant system to remove the oil deposits?

What do people do with theirs after similar issues?

I had a similar problem on a mk2 passat,tried Radflush,fairy liquid and Gunk,none really worked.In desperation i put in a pint of traffic film remover and took the car for a 20 min run.i had to flush the rad 2 or 3 times but it did the trick.i should mention that i topped up the coolant system  with tap water after i put the TFR in.

I heard washing powder but can't remember if bio or non bio and leave the lid off whilst running it through

I thought about using brake cleaner as that worked really well on cleaning the old expansion tank, but I don't see how I could get enough of it in the cooling system without adding water as well!

3 litres+ is a lot of brake cleaner.

Might try TFR as I need to get some for when I clean my car.
